This ground-breaking and unmissable piano collection celebrates the
music of iconic black songwriters. Including acclaimed songs such
as People Get Ready (Curtis Mayfield), A Change is Gonna Come (Sam
Cooke), Blinded By Your Grace Part 1 (Stormzy), I Wish I Knew How
It Would Feel To Be Free (Nina Simone), Redemption Song (Bob
Marley), and more. All of the pieces are idiomatically arranged for
intermediate-level piano solo (approximately Grade 3-5). The
nature, style and genre of the songs vary widely, but the aim is to
introduce players to a range of musicians and works that may well
be new to them but are nevertheless important classics. The song
People Get Ready was written during a time of civil unrest in
America. Curtis Mayfield was increasingly infusing his songs with
social commentary and it was written to give a message of hope,
that change is on the way and there will be better times ahead.
