Roy Dean was born with severe Down's syndrome to an indifferent
mother. When he is four, he suffers a trauma and is separated from
his mother and confined to a wheelchair in an institution. At 16,
without a thought to the consequences, Roy Dean slowly rises from
his wheelchair and walks away from the only world he really knows.
This is the story of the evolution of Roy Dean, and how he learns
the joy of dumpsters, friendship, independence, and the ability to
face his anger and fears. Roy Dean wanders the streets of the city,
slowly emerging from its shadows to find the sunlight and the power
of self-respect.
