Delinquency is a psycho-social problem. In a developing country,
like India, the problem of delinquency is becoming increasingly
complex and therefore it is necessary for a scientific study of the
problem in Indian context. It is particularly so because, there is
dearth of such studies in our country and the workers in the field
of delinquency are handicapped for lack of scientific information.
The present research tried to examined the various factors,
personal characteristics of delinquent and their socio-economic
background, parental occupation and income, home conditions,
companionship factors etc., contributing to Juvenile Delinquency in
the context of Chandigarh with special reference to Juvenile Home,
Sec-25, Chandigarh and with the view to identify the factors which
contribute to delinquency. The knowledge which will derive from the
research, it is hoped that it would be useful in itself to identify
the potential delinquents and to take measures for preventing them
from exploding into crime.
