In 1787, the twenty-eighth year of the reign of King George III, the British Government sent a fleet to colonize Australia…

An epic description of the brutal transportation of men, women and children out of Georgian Britain into a horrific penal system which was to be the precursor to the Gulag and was the origin of Australia. The Fatal Shore is the prize-winning, scholarly, brilliantly entertaining narrative that has given its true history to Australia.

Review This Product

Visceral punch to the gut, man's cruelty and enduring hope packed into one explosion of description.

Fri, 23 Sep 2022 | Review by: Rob P.

This book details the wide gulf between criminals and the elite. Slavery and bloody descriptions of the cruelty endured by many in the birth of a colonial nation. The graphic descriptions of bravery in the face of demonic punishments were horrific. I felt those shackles biting into my flesh and the floggings tearing at my back. Humanity does triumph but at an enormous cost. A compelling read.
