The large conflict of the Basque country for its liberation began
in 1959 with the formation of the nationalist and separatist
organization ETA. The group was founded in 1959 as a consequence of
the reprisals taken against their land by Franco's government. The
novel describes the increasing violence in the fight between
Spanish government forces and the ETA members during the 70's.
Related mostly by a young Basque-American, it takes part in San
Sebastian and Pamplona as well as the United States. It depicts not
only the violence but also the love among people and the
destruction both emotions can create.
