Such poetry has a setting-in-life as well as a setting-in-literature, and needs to be read at both levels in order to appreciate its impact as a work of art. By considering the essential elements of Hebrew verse, this book introduces the reader to the full range of the poetry of the Old Testament, both outside the Psalter and within it. It is aimed at Old Testament students but is fully accessible to non-specialists as well. No knowledge of Hebrew is presumed, and a select bibliography following each chapter offers suggestions for further study.
