This book aims to bring into focus the major advances in cardiac
pacing over the last 5-6 years, constituting a valuable resource to
update all those involved in the care of patients with implanted
devices. The team of internationally respected contributors place
particular emphasis on new techniques for the treatment of
congestive heart failure. Advances in pacemaker technology are
covered extensively, with a focus on the technical and clinical
aspects of expanding pacemaker memory, the diagnosis of arrhythmias
and pacemaker malfunction, and follow-up of device function.
Contributors also discuss more controversial indications for
pacing, particularly emphasising atrial fibrillation. Taking
account of the new field of implantable
cardioverter-defibrillation, and the new skills associated with ICD
therapy, the text highlights the interface between pacemaker and
defibrillator.
