Ubiquinol is 8 times better absorbed than regular co-enzyme Q10, offering protection against the free radical cause of aging. It acts as an antioxidant energiser to keep cells alive due to its role in the generation of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Ubiquinol also supports heart health.

Contra-Indications: |
Safety in pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established, do not use. Individuals currently being treated with any of the following medications, should not use Ubiquinol Co-Q10 without first talking to their healthcare provider.
Blood Pressure Medications: In a study of individuals taking blood pressure medications (including diltiazem, metoprolol, enalapril, and nitrate), co-enzyme Q10 supplementation allowed the individuals to take lower dosages of these drugs. This suggests that co-enzyme Q10 may enhance the effectiveness of certain blood pressure medications.
Daunorubicin and Doxorubicin: Co-enzyme Q10 may help to reduce the toxic effects on the heart caused by daunorubicin and doxorubicin, two chemotherapy medications that are commonly used to treat a variety of cancers . However, there is concern that anti-oxidants such as co-enzyme Q10 might protect tumour cells from chemotherapeutic agents that work by inducing oxidative stress, such as the alkylating agents (e.g. cyclophosphamide, Cytoxan) and radiation therapy. Co-enzyme Q10 should only be used in sufferers under the supervision of a knowledgeable medical practitioner.
HMG CoA Reductase Inhibitors (Statins): HMG CoA reductase inhibitors can reduce serum ubiquinol levels. They block the synthesis of mevalonic acid, which is a precursor of co-enzyme Q10.
Timolol: Co-enzyme Q10 supplementation may reduce the heart-related side effects of timolol drops, a beta-blocker medication used to treat glaucoma, without decreasing the effectiveness of the medication.
Warfarin: There have been reports that co-enzyme Q10 may decrease the effectiveness of blood-thinning medications such as warfarin, leading to the need for increased doses. Therefore, given that this medication must be monitored very closely for maintenance of appropriate levels and steady blood thinning, co-enzyme Q10 should only be used with warfarin under careful supervision by a healthcare provider.
Other: Medications that can lower the levels of co-enzyme Q10 in the body include statins for cholesterol, fibric acid derivatives for cholesterol (specifically, gemfibrozil), beta-blockers for high blood pressure (such as atenolol, labetolol, metoprolol, and propranolol), and tricyclic antidepressant medications (including amitriptyline, clomipramine, desipramine, imipramine, nortriptyline, and trimipramine).
Interactions with Diseases or Conditions:
Hypotension, hypertension: Co-enzyme Q10 might lower blood pressure. It can have additive effects with medications used for hypertension; use with caution.
Smoking: Cigarette smoking depletes body stores of co-enzyme Q10.
Surgery: Co-enzyme Q10 might affect blood pressure. Theoretically, co-enzyme Q10 might interfere with blood pressure control during and after surgical procedures. Patients are advised to discontinue co-enzyme Q10 at least 2-weeks before elective surgical procedures.
