A very thorough and well-researched book.
The first section covers the 8 sabbats in great detail, including the history of each celebration, and how modern wiccans observe them now. also included are rituals for birth, death, and marriage, as written and used by the authors.
The second section includes fundamental information about the practice of modern wicca, with heaps of info from gardner, valiente, and numerous other sources. It's basically an annotated and explained version of the Gardnerian book of shadows, with extra stuff thrown in,
My major gripe with the book, however, is the relatively narrow approach it takes to witchcraft. Witchcraft is defined early on as wicca, and no other form of witchraft is discussed. The entire book is written from a purely "traditional" wiccan perspective.
Also, for all their professed modernity, the authors also have an extremely biased view on gender and sexuality, and in my opinion, the role of gender polarity in magick is extremely overemphasised. Not only do all the rituals and guidelines have references to "working groups" of one man and one woman, but the chapter on sexuality has a decidedly biased and homophobic feel about it.
regardless, if used as a reference work, and not an actual "bible" or guidebook, this is a very useful book.

Bare in mind this book was written during the 1970's, the views on Wicca, Witchcraft and especially gender roles as shifted a little since then.
