the church today than to study the lives of faithful Christians who
have gone before us. In Witnesses to the Word, Victor Shepherd
introduces us to fifty faithful servants of Jesus Christ. Some,
like Dietrich Bonhoeffer, executed by Adolf Hitler, have given up
their very lives for the sake of the gospel. Others such as C. S.
