Official export credit agencies were established originally to
promote national exports in situations where the private sector was
reluctant to do so, and have become an important source for debt
financing for developing countries. This study examines a range of
issues in relation to officially supported export credits,
including key trends and developments; the impact of factors such
as government policies and private sector competition; key
challenges such as complementing the private sector, financing for
low-income countries, trade finance in financial crisis, and export
credit agencies in developing countries.
