1862. The author's intent in this book was to disseminate to the
public a more correct and extended knowledge of blindness, and its
effects upon mental and physical development. It was their hope to
remove some of the most formidable obstacles that hedge up the way
of usefulness and independence, for all who are placed in this
condition; a condition to which every person is exposes. This
subject is one of which so many false notions that these writers
deemed it expedient to give the facts in such connections to best
guard against being misunderstood.
