This is an account of the Second Anglo-Burmese War, undertaken to
promote the activities of British colonial merchants in the region,
and to avenge perceived "insults, . injustice and oppression" of
British representatives by the Burmese court. An important document
of colonial history, this detailed account of the campaign as seen
through the eyes of an English officer was first published in 1853.
The new edition includes the sketch maps of the defenses of Rangoon
and Bassein contained in the original.
