Fast-paced action movie starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Mickey
Rourke. The Courier (Morgan) has earned his nickname through a
remarkable ability to track down individuals and deliver messages
and packages. The Courier is particularly prized, in certain
circles, for his refusal to ask questions or query the legality of
the material he carries. However, when he is handed a package by a
branch of the Russian mafia and asked to deliver it to an
especially notorious underworld figure, The Courier's skills will
be tested to the limit. He believes he has made a breakthrough when
he gets in contact with Maxwell (Mickey Rourke), a former associate
of the elusive figure he is seeking, but how far can Maxwell be
trusted?
Easy Rhymes A.K.A ...by poet/lyricist Michael Conroy brings
together some of the work that has somehow seen him acquire
decades-long loyalty from die-hard individuals spread thinly around
the globe. Consistently peripheral and with a meagre and fitful
work ethic, Conroy somehow managed entry into Manchester's Factory
Records opus and recorded a Peel session. He has had national and
international radio play, seen work published on both sides of the
Atlantic, gigged around the North West, London and New York and
been anthologized and shared stages with poetic and literary
luminaries. From teenage scribbler and spleen-venter for agitprop
magazine 'Outlaw' to co-MC with Hovis Presley at Bolton's long-lost
'Scabaret' to vocals and lyrics for 'the Orch' and 'superqueens'
and beyond. This book is for the die-hards, old and new.
#1 New York Times bestselling author Pat Conroy's classic
semi-autographical novel of a harsh Marine father and his son's
struggle to come into his own. "Robust and vivid...full of
feeling." --Newsday This is the story of Bull Meecham, the epitome
of the Marine officer. Demanding, authoritarian, as tough a
disciplinarian at home as at the base, Bull is a difficult man to
please, and even harder to love. This is also the story of Ben
Meecham, Bull's oldest son. A gifted athlete whose best never
satisfies his father, Ben must balance his own ambition with his
father's expectations--and decide what course he will chart for
himself and what kind of man he will become. Piercing, bittersweet,
and unforgettable, The Great Santini is Pat Conroy's
semi-autobiographical lens into fathers and sons, and the powerful
legacy one man can leave behind.
What do we mean when we talk about bodies in theatre? And how does
theatre affect the way we think about the human body? Bodies are
vital elements of theatre production and spectatorship. But the
body is not just physical, it is also conceptual. Drawing on many
examples from contemporary performance, Theatre& the Body is a
provocative starting point for understanding the surprisingly
complex relationship between theatre and the body. Concise and
clear, this book explores the revealing tensions between the body,
bodies, language, representation and movement in the theatre.
Foreword by Marina Abramovic
In order to understand the motivations for and implications of
Hillary Clinton's historic run for the White House- and her
subsequent defeat-the authors explore sexism and gender bias in
U.S. political and social culture. While there is some indication
that overt sexism toward women in politics is declining, whether
this is true for women who run for the highest office in American
politics remains relatively unknown. Hillary Clinton's historic run
as the 2016 Democratic nominee, however, allows scholars and
journalists to contextualize decades of scholarship on sex, gender,
and the American presidency. In Sex and Gender in the 2016
Presidential Election, the authors, all experts on gender in
politics, analyze the nature of gender in public opinion, media
coverage, social media, and culture during the 2016 presidential
election. They assess whether conventional expectations and
theories hold up in today's sociopolitical climate. Moreover, they
consider how Clinton's foray into relatively uncharted territory
might redirect the political field-and its implications for women
with political ambitions-going forward. Analyzes original data such
as Twitter hashtags, exit polls, and other public opinion data Goes
beyond women-in-politics research to consider gender as a barrier
to political equality Describes the media's involvement in
perpetuating gender stereotypes Considers rape culture as an
important aspect of both the Trump campaign and the general
election

And so, Allan, you wish to go to sea? "Yes, father," I replied.
"But, is there no other profession you would prefer-the law, for
instance? It seems a prosperous trade enough, judging from the fact
that solicitors generally appear well to do, with plenty of
money-possibly that of other people-in their possession; so,
considering the matter from a worldly point of view, you might do
worse, Allan, than join their ranks." I shook my head, however, as
a sign of dissent to this proposition. "Well then, my boy," went on
father in his logical way, anxious that I should clearly understand
all the bearings of the case, and have the advantages and
disadvantages of each calling succinctly set before me, "there is
medicine now, if you dislike the study of Themis, as your gesture
would imply.

Demography can be considered the key to understanding much of
biology. It is the demographic processes of birth and death which
govern the spread of populations through environmentsand the spread
of genes through populations. An understa- ing of demographycan
yield not only an understanding of population size and p- ulation
change, it can help us to understand the form and function of life
histories; whenorganismsmature,whentheybreed,and whentheydie.
Demographicinsights allow us to see how populations function, how
they interact with their changing environment, and how they adapt.
The analysis of demographic processes in free-living organisms is
however no simple task and involves considerable challenges in
observation and analysis. Some
20yearsago,therewasaconcertedefforttopromoteinter-disciplinarycollaboration
between biologists and statisticians to address these challenges
and thereby to f- ther our understanding of demographic processes
in natural populations. Although many diverse organisms can be
studied in the wild, birds have proved particularly amenable with
large numbers being marked and followed by large networks of -
servers. Itwas nocoincidencethenthatthe EuropeanUnionforBird
Ringing(EUR- ING) played a leading role in these initiatives,
teaming up in the mid-1980swith the Mathematical Ecology Group of
the Biometric Society, and the British Ecological Society, to bring
together experts from diverse ?elds to address the challenges in
hand. Twenty years on, progresshas been considerable and we now
have signi?cant insights into demographic processes thanks to the
wide range of quantitative tools and systematically collected
datasets which have been built up over this period.

Eighteen essays on the failure of diplomatic efforts by the US and
Japan between the two world wars--the problems that thwarted
diplomacy, the possible avoidability of the Pacific War. The
collection serves as a retroactive study in peace research as well
as a study in diplomatic history.
The numbers of Africans living in absolute poverty continues to
increase. Through bolder and more innovative approaches, the poor
can be helped, at very reasonable cost, to break out of poverty. We
use the experience from one of the poorest countries on the
continent, Malawi, to illustrate both the challenges that poverty
creates, and the opportunities for change that exist. We develop a
model easily replicable at modest cost to lift people quickly out
of poverty, with sustainable benefits.
The development of poor countries has so often meant the export of
Northern technology for ambitious schemes designed to make money
the latest giant dam, oil refinery, logging process or pesticide
factory. But such 'aid' has frequently been ecologically
destructive and its crippling cost has ended up making life
immeasurably worse for those it was supposed to help. Using
examples from Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, Central and South
America, this book shows there are forms of development that allow
people to control their own resources while improving their
condition and enhancing their environment. The 33 case studies from
agriculture, fishing and industry were commissioned by the
International Institute for Environment and Development from people
closely involved in the projects, with overviews by Robert
Chambers, John Michael Kramer, Marilyn Carr, David Butcher and Yves
Cabannes. Originally published in 1988
