All ten episodes from the first season of the Emmy Award-nominated
historical drama series focusing on the life and romances of the
young King Henry VIII (Jonathan Rhys Meyers). Set in Renaissance
Britain during the early part of Henry's reign, the series portrays
the passionate and irascible king, his Spanish Queen Catherine
(Maria Doyle Kennedy), his ministers Sir Thomas More (Jeremy
Northam) and Cardinal Wolsey (Sam Neil), and a host of would-be
mistresses and wives. As bold and passionate about his country as
he is about his women, Henry's obsession with ensuring his legacy
leads to the beheading of both friends and foes, the waging of wars
and a challenge to the Catholic Church - events that forever
changed the face of the British Empire. Episodes comprise: 'In Cold
Blood', 'Simply Henry', 'Wolsey, Wolsey, Wolsey!', 'His Majesty,
the King', 'Arise, My Lord', 'True Love', 'Message to the Emperor',
'Truth and Justice', 'Look to God First' and 'The Death of Wolsey'.
An outstanding compilation of piano etudes and exercises from the
ever-popular BA1/4rgmuller's 25 Progressive Pieces, Opus 100,
Czerny's Practical Method for Beginners on the Piano, Opus 599, and
Hanon's The Virtuoso Pianist. Etudes are organized into four units
according to difficulty and emphasize different aspects of
technique and musicianship. Hanon exercises are included within
each unit to reinforce the need for finger strength, independence
and agility. Information about each composer's life, music and
books is also provided.
Book 3 includes attractive musical etudes by Carl Czerny, Johann F.
Burgmuller and Stephen Heller and select exercises by Charles-Louis
Hanon. The studies are organized into four units, each focusing on
mastering a particular skill. Performance suggestions for each
study are included, along with composer biographies and suggested
practice alternatives for the Hanon etudes. Includes 16 studies by
Czerny, 5 by Burgmuller (including "The Pearls" and "The Storm"),
and 8 by Heller (including "Through Wind and Rain" and
"Novelette"). 80 pages.
Intimate partner violence leaves long-term effects. Survivors often
struggle with issues of safety, self-esteem, and trusting their own
ability to make healthy decisions and enter future relationships.
This revolutionary treatment method uses art therapy to guide
individuals through a journey of self-exploration, helping them to
re-discover their confidence and grow beyond their experiences.
Each phase of the Empowerment Wheel is supported by a creative
project designed to help individuals examine their experience of
red flags, boundaries, locus of control, relationship authenticity,
self-talk, and integrated self. With this method, clients will
learn to recognise the echoes of relationship abuse and begin to
rebuild their self-esteem and individual sense of empowerment.
Grounded in the authors' extensive experience in the field of
trauma and recovery, the Empowerment Wheel provides a measured,
client-directed way to guide survivors of intimate partner violence
through the healing process to build a healthy, empowered future.
These 50 excellent and systematic exercises Czerny devised for
developing finger dexterity are as useful today as when they were
first written. Each exercise is preceded by a statement of specific
goals. Exercises range from achieving even finger action with a
quiet hand to virtuoso studies that emphasize affectations such as
the bravura touch. This volume has 208 pages.

Carl Czerny (1791?1857) was an Austrian pianist, composer and
teacher. Today he is best remembered for his volumes of ?tudes for
the piano. Czerny's music was greatly influenced by his teachers,
Clementi, Hummel, Salieri and Beethoven. This book contains
Czerny's "First Instruction in Piano Playing," ("100 Recreations"),
Exercises 1-100.

As there are several hundred piano studies by Czerny, it might
become confusing to attempt to pick out the most effective
exercises. To overcome this problem, Heinrich Germer, the original
editor, chose those he thought were best. Willard A. Palmer has
made several changes to metronome markings, fingerings and pedal
indications where he felt certain passages needed clarification.
Carl Czerny was a prolific composer who wrote approximately 1,000
published works. As a pupil of Beethoven and the teacher of Franz
Liszt, he was a transmitter of ideas from one great master to
another. His many collections of exercises and studies range from
the easy and progressive to the virtuoso. The Czerny-Schaum edition
is based on selections from Op. 599, Op. 139, Op. 821, Op. 718, Op.
636, and Op. 261. The objective is to bring together, in condensed
form, excerpts that stress many varieties of technical problems.
Special emphasis is placed on equal development of both hands. The
technical points are equally divided between the right and the left
hands. The exercises are purposely left brief, thereby avoiding
stiffness and tension. Using the Czerny-Schaum exercises will
improve piano technic when used in conjunction with a program of
balanced repertoire.

Over the past several decades, commercial air traffic has been
growing at a far greater rate than airport capacity, causing
airports to become increasingly congested. How can we accommodate
this increased traffic and at the same time alleviate traffic
delays resulting from congestion? The response outside the US has
been to set a maximum number of slots and use administrative
procedures to allocate these among competing airlines, with the
most important consideration being 'grandfather rights' to existing
carriers. The United States, on the other hand, has used
administrative procedures to allocate slots at only four airports.
In all other cases, flights have been handled on a first-come,
first-served basis, with aircraft queuing for the privilege of
landing or taking off from a congested airport. While recognizing
the advantages of slot systems in lessening delays, economists have
criticized both approaches as being sub-optimal, and have advocated
procedures such as slot auctions, peak-load pricing and slot
trading to better utilize congested airports. Edited by an
international team of air transport economists and drawing on an
impressive list of contributors, Airport Slots provides an
extremely comprehensive treatment of the subject. It considers the
methods currently used to allocate slots and applies economic
analysis to each. The book then explains various schemes to
increase public welfare by taxing or pricing congestion, and
describes alternate slot-allocation schemes, most notably slot
auctions. In addition, Airport Slots outlines the complexities
involved in slot-allocation methods, including the requirement for
multiple slots - a take-off slot at London Heathrow is useless
unless there is a landing slot available at Frankfurt for a London
Frankfurt flight. Finally, the book explores the economic pitfalls
of slot-allocation schemes; for example, controls may not be
required if external delay costs are internalized by a dominant
carrier at its hub. Airport Slots provides a valuable contribution
to the debate on how best to limit airport congestion. The book's
comprehensive treatment of the subject matter provides the reader
with a 'one-stop' volume to explore airport congestion and
slot-allocation schemes, offering valuable insights to academics
and practitioners alike.

Loretta Czernis applies her sociological training in document
analysis to study one government prescription for what ails
Canadians. The "Report of the Task Force on Canadian Unity" rewrote
Canada by reinventing patriotism, essentially inviting Canadians to
imagine a new Canada. The "Report" itself is the product of what
she calls the "federal writing machine" which exists to continually
rewrite and thus reinvent Canada. Czernis' contextual reading of
the "Report" occurs on two levels: reading technically, she
examines the "Report"'s anonymous writing style that asks readers
to imitate its own conclusions (be patriotic, buy a flag, shop at
home). Gestural reading invites reading as performance. Canadians
are invited to participate in reshaping Canada by reading Canada
allegorically, as a social body, capable of changing its form. What
a document may intend is not always the same as what is read into
it. Mistakes can and do occur in the reading. Czernis suggests that
these "mistakes" constitute a significant form of resistance to the
anonymous writing machine. "Weaving a Canadian Allegory" will be of
special interest to Canadianists, sociologists and to those
involved in cultural, political and textual studies.

Since the central theme of this book is the transmission of disease
agents through the food chain, we will examine influenza viruses
from this perspective. Influenza A viruses are found in humans,
pigs, horses, sea mammals, and also in wild aquatic and domestic
birds 23]. How are they spread? Between mammals, influenza is an
airborne infection, but between birds, influenza can be either an
airborne or waterborne infection. Influenza viruses of aquatic
birds periodically transmit to domestic birds sometimes with
catastrophic effects; this transmis sion can be either airborne or
waterborne. Less frequently, avian influenza viruses transmit to
mammals and three to four times in the past century this
transmission has initiated a pandemic of influenza in humans. The
method of spread of avian influenza viruses to mammals remains
unresolved, but could be either airborne or waterborne. In this
report we will consider recent examples of interspecies
transmission of influenza A viruses and the possible prevention of
emergence of the next human pandemic which is considered imminent.
The reservoirs of influenza A viruses The available evidence
indicates that aquatic birds are the reservoirs of all 15 subtypes
of influenza A viruses. We will first consider the replication of
influenza A in aquatic birds. In wild ducks, influenza viruses
replicate preferentially in the cells lining the intestinal tract,
cause no disease signs, and 8 7 are excreted in high concentrations
