This book examines the interaction between the realms of ethics and
international relations. The essays discuss such issues as the
responsibilities of defence scientists; theological reflections on
compromise; the ethics of risk-taking; the international legal
protection of human rights and the collaboration of
non-governmental organisations in giving individuals greater
influence through international institutions. Sydney D. Bailey made
a distinguished contribution over many years in bringing ethical
concerns to bear on international affairs. These essays, exploring
some of the many areas in which he achieved recognition as a writer
and policy adviser, were offered in his honour at 65 by his friends
and colleagues. .
This book examines the politics of biological disarmament, focusing
on the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) as a treaty regime and
the cornerstone of biological disarmament efforts. Biological
weapons have long been banned, but the ban needs strengthening. The
1972 Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) is the cornerstone of this
disarmament regime. After years of deadlock and disappointment its
Sixth Review Conference in 2006 generated new hope that biological
disarmament could be reinforced from within. This book studies the
intricate diplomacy of the Sixth Review Conference as a key moment
in the recovery of self-confidence by the treaty parties. It makes
detailed proposals for developing an accountability framework and
stronger institutions so that the treaty regime can work better. It
examines alternative futures for the BWC and the trajectories to be
avoided or encouraged in the short, medium and longer terms as its
regime evolves. Controversially, by comparing treaty constraints on
biological, chemical and nuclear weapons it restores the BWC firmly
to the realm of disarmament rather than arms control and rescues it
from misleading identifications with counterproliferation and
counterterrorism models. This book will appeal to policy-makers,
diplomats and students of biological weapons, weapons of mass
destruction, international security and IR in general. Nicholas A.
Sims is Reader in International Relations at the London School of
Economics. He is author of four books on aspects of disarmament.

Ecological Land Classification (ELC) refers to the description of
land resources at a range of spatial resolutions (i.e. global to
local) and for a range of purposes or values. The emerging science
of ELC is in fact a very carefully integrated blend of vegetation
and earth sciences, climatology, cartography and ecology with a
range of new technologies and methodologies including
computer-based geographic information systems, remote sensing and
simulation modelling. This publication defines the current
state-of-the-art' of ELC. It provides particular insight into the
role of ELC in current and future forest resource planning and
management, and emphasizes its application and usefulness at
various spatial scales, for a variety of geographic locations, and
under a range of management scenarios/constraints. The book is an
invaluable and substantial reference source about the current
trends in ELC and will be of particular value to ecologists,
foresters, geographers, resource managers, wildlife biologists, GIS
and remote sensing specialists, educators and students.
In an increasingly globalized economy, Sims argues that Ida B.
Wells s fight against lynching is a viable option to address
systemic forms of oppression. More than a century since Wells
launched her anti-lynching campaign, an examination of her work
questions America s use of lynching as a tool to regulate behavior
and the manner in which public opinion is shaped and lived out in
the private sector. Ethical Complications of Lynching highlights
the residual effects of lynching as a twenty-first century moral
impediment in the fight to actualize ethical possibilities.

Moments before proposing marriage, adult movie store owner, Jon,
reflects on several of his failed relationships and whether or not
this girl is the "right one." After Jon tossed aside his first
girlfriend in middle school to pursue her best friend, he is teased
then spurned by his fantasy girl, a red-headed gymnast. Stunted
covers his twenty year quest to find her equal. Through the years
Jon's dating life is highlighted by mysterious prom night sex,
sleeping with a girlfriend's best friend because she was quicker to
begin birth control, substitute intercourse, living with both his
girlfriend and his mistress, plus lengthy relationships with both a
virgin and a neurotic. While graphically detailing his twenty years
in the dating pool, Stunted features Jon's brutally honest thoughts
which litter each infatuation, infidelity and break-up.

In this updated 2nd edition, the authors created a blueprint for
educational leaders to arrive at an understanding of the complexity
of shared leadership for achieving reflective school improvement.
The dispositions for leadership success are embedded in the
Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (PSEL, 2015) created
by the National Policy Board for Educational Administration (NPBEA)
and the NELP standards (2018) created by a committee for National
Educational Leadership Preparation approved by the Council for the
Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). The NELP and PSEL
standards are aligned to provide specificity around performance
expectations for beginning level and district leaders.
To support these key standards Transforming
Professional Practice: A Framework for Effective Leadership 2nd
