Documentary from filmmakers Henry Alex Rubin and Dana Adam Shapiro,
following the quadriplegic men who play the sport of 'quad rugby'.
Driven and determined to overcome the limitations of their
disabilities, the men who play the sport professionally can risk
serious injuries in the tough, close-contact game. In the run up to
the 2004 Paralympics in Athens, Team USA and Team Canada begin to
square off for the showdown in the quad rugby final, as the
filmmakers subvert clichés and stereotypes of what it means to be
disabled, and what it means to want to win.
Very Short Introductions: Brilliant, Sharp, Inspiring Debates about
science and religion are rarely out of the news. Whether it
concerns what's being taught in schools, clashes between religious
values and medical recommendations, or questions about how to
address our changing global environment, emotions often run high
and answers seem intractable. Yet there is much more to science and
religion than the clash of extremes. As Thomas Dixon and Adam
Shapiro show in this balanced and thought-provoking Very Short
Introduction, a whole range of views, subtle arguments, and
fascinating perspectives can be found on this complex and
centuries-old subject. They explore the key philosophical questions
that underlie the debate, but also highlight the social, political,
and ethical contexts that have made the tensions between science
and religion such a fraught and interesting topic in the modern
world. In this new edition, Dixon and Shapiro connect historical
concepts such as evolution, the heliocentric solar system, and the
problem of evil to present-day issues including the politicization
of science; debates over mind, body, and identity; and the moral
necessity of addressing environmental change. Ranging from medical
missionaries to congregations adopting new technologies during a
pandemic, from Galileo's astronomy to building the Thirty Meter
Telescope, they explore how some of the most complex social issues
of our day are rooted in discussions of science and religion. ABOUT

When fifteen-year-old Henry Every washes up on shore, the only
clues to his shocking death are those he leaves behind in a secret
ledger that someone mysteriously leaves on his parents' doorstep.
Crammed full of his darkly comic confessions, the pages detail
Henry's myriad misadventures on his wayward quest for
self-betterment: acts of petty crime with his best friend, Jorden,
a romantic obsession with the elusive Benna, and a prickly
relationship with a lethal jellyfish. Quietly wise and
laugh-out-loud funny, The Every Boy proves there's hope in the
darkest places -- you just have to know where to look.
In February, 2003, the Sudanese Liberation Army in Darfur (the
western region of Sudan) after years of oppression took up arms
against the Sudanese government. The government and allied militias
answered the rebellion with mass murder, rape and the wholesale
destruction of villages and livelihood, resulting in one of the
world's largest humanitarian and political crises. Up to 2 million
people were displaced; 400,000 people killed. In October and
November, 2004, after watching woefully inadequate media coverage
on the crisis in Darfur, a team of three independent filmmakers
trekked to Darfurian refugee camps in eastern Chad and crept across
the border into Darfur. They met dozens of Darfurians, and spoke
with them about their history, hopes and fears, and the tragedy
they are living. Refugees and displaced peoples, civilians and
fighters resisting the Sudanese government, teachers, students,
parents, children and community leaders provide the heart of Darfur
Diaries. Their stories and testimonies, woven together through the
personal experience of the filmmakers, and conveyed with political
and historical context, provide a much-needed account to help
understand Darfur. These are people whose lives, homes, safety and
rights deserve to be protected as vigilantly as those of peoples
all over the world.
A Clean Break: A New Strategy for Securing the Realm is a
definitive Middle East Policy strategy authored and implemented by
operatives in the highest levels of the US government. There is
just one problem. The plan was a strategy for Israel, not the
United States of America. Neocon Middle East Policy reviews
strategies and consequences of the "Clean Break" plan authored by
Richard Perle, David Wurmser, and Douglas Feith in 1996. It
analyzes the core assumptions of the policy, cost of tactics that
have already been implemented and discusses the likelihood others
will be executed in the future. Neocon Middle East Policy then
turns to the most difficult questions of all, "Can a policy crafted
for a foreign government and presented to Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu serve as a blueprint for US regional policy? At what cost
in credibility, blood, treasure and American integrity? At what
cost to Israel?" Neocon Middle East Policy is a must-read for
anyone concerned about the convergence of US and Israeli foreign
policy in the Middle East.
It all began as a self-help journey in the purest sense. A serial
monogamist for more than two decades, Shapiro wanted to know why
the honeymoon phase of his relationships never lasted until the
actual honeymoon. Believing that you learn more from failure than
from success, he spent the next three years criss-crossing the
country with a tape recorder, interviewing hundreds of divorced
people, hoping to become so fluent in the errors of Eros that he
would be able to avoid them in his own love life--and one day be a
better husband.
The result is a timely treasure trove of marital wisdom that is as
racy as it is revelatory. Shockingly intimate and profoundly
personal, this is a page-turning, voyeuristic investigation of
modern love and a practical guide for any couple looking to beat
the roulette-wheel odds of actually staying together forever.
