This powerful tale centers on the struggles of three characters: Charles Eastman, a young, Dartmouth-educated, Sioux doctor; Sitting Bull, the proud Lakota chief who refuses to submit to U.S. government policies designed to strip his people of their identity, their dignity and their sacred land - the gold-laden Black Hills of the Dakotas; and Senator Henry Dawes, one of the men responsible for the government policy on Indian affairs. While Eastman and schoolteacher Elaine Goodale work to improve life for the Sioux on the reservation, Senator Dawes lobbies President Grant for kinder Indian treatment. Epic in scope, Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee is a new Western classic.
The story of the conflict between slave-traders and Jesuits during the colonisation of South America by Spain and Portugal. In 1750 Jesuit priest Gabriel (Jeremy Irons) arrives in the Amazon to build a mission for the Guarani Indians. He comes into conflict with slave trader Mendoza (Robert De Niro), who kills or captures many of the tribe but escapes punishment due to the fact that he is an aristocrat. However, it transpires that even Mendoza has a conscience when he comes to Gabriel asking for penance.
Liam Neeson and Diane Kruger star in this mystery thriller based on the novel 'Out of My Head' by Didier van Cauwelaert. Dr Martin Harris (Neeson) wakes up from a coma in Berlin, only to discover that another man (Aidan Quinn) has assumed his identity in his absence and that no one, not even his wife (January Jones), appears to realise what has happened. As self-doubt and paranoia take hold, Harris is about to discover just how far he is willing to go to prove the truth and reclaim his life.
Seth Gabel and Shad Moss star in this war drama written and directed by Michael Connors. Executive Officer First Lieutenant Danny Selfton (Gabel) is transferred to a non-deploying unit due to his father's high profile political power. When his fellow soldier and friend Combat Medic Reyes (Moss) gets his reassignment request denied after receiving news that his son has been diagnosed with lung cancer, Selfton sees an opportunity to help him escape and become a worthwhile member of the squad.
A Jewish girl's story opens wounds from France's wartime past in this drama from director Gilles Paquet-Brenner. Living in Paris while her architect husband Bertrand (Frederic Pierrot) restores his family's apartment block, writer Julia Jarmond (Kristin Scott Thomas) stumbles across the wartime history of the block's original Jewish owners, who were arrested by the Vichy government as part of the notorious Vel' d'Hiv Roundup of 1942 and forced to sell their property. As the story unfolds, Julia becomes increasingly haunted by the fate of ten-year-old Sarah Starzynski (Melusine Mayance), who, after being detained, escapes in a desperate attempt to return to the block where she has secretly hidden her younger brother.
Irish family drama based on the novel by Lillian Beckwith. Connie Nielson stars as Maire O'Donnell, a fisherman's wife on the remote Corrie Island who adopts a shy young orphan, Tomas (John Bell). On the island, Maire teaches Tomas the local folklore, including the secret of the seals, and gradually instills confidence and self-worth into the boy. But Maire's husband Alec (Aidan Quinn) is derisive of Tomas's timidity and halting speech, and can barely conceal his disappointment that Tomas is not the kind of son he was hoping for.
