Measurement and Evaluation in Human Performance, Fourth
Edition, paves the way for students and professionals to identify
and solve human performance problems in the areas of kinesiology,
physical education, health, and fitness. Focusing on the concepts
of reliability, objectivity, and validity, the text introduces
students to tests and measurements and guides them through
statistical decision making and accurate interpretation of data.
Measurement and Evaluation in Human Performance, Fourth
Edition, is designed with student learning in mind with its
practical approach, easy-to-read style, and minimal mathematics.
Like previous editions, the text combines introductory algebraic
concepts with explanations of reliability and validity to assist
students in developing the knowledge and tools to gather and
analyze data for decision making. The fourth edition also features
many upgrades:
- An updated online study guide that incorporates more student
activities, computer tasks, and quiz questions to help students
comprehend the concepts
- A realignment of chapters into four cohesive sections leading
from background knowledge and basic statistical concepts to
supportive theories and practical application
- Greater use of Microsoft Excel to assist with statistical
calculations, including an appendix of directions, screen captures,
and templates for complex calculations
- Inclusion of large sample data sets with each chapter's online
study guide content that help students review concepts and
emphasize the value of computer skills in the field of measurement
and evaluation
- More information on physical activity assessment incorporated
into all chapters
- A new contributor who lends expertise to teachers and coaches in
a chapter addressing performance-based assessment
In addition to incorporating use of MS Excel, this edition
continues to use Predictive Analysis Software (PASW), previously
known as Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). These
computer applications provide students with the skills to quickly
complete time-consuming and difficult calculations for large
amounts of data.
A unique strength of the text is the presentation of practical
settings where students will use their measurement and evaluation
skills. After learning how to analyze and interpret data using
concepts of reliability and validity from norm-referenced and
criterion-referenced perspectives, students will see how to apply
their skills to develop written tests and surveys, assess physical
fitness and activity in adults and youth, assess sport skills and
motor abilities, and make psychological measurements by using
scales in assessing attitudes, beliefs, and concepts. Finally,
students will find special learning elements throughout the text
such as chapter objectives, measurement and evaluation challenges,
and highlight boxes, while instructors will appreciate an updated
ancillary package featuring an instructor guide, test package, and
presentation package with a new image bank.
Includes online study guide!
The online study guide is specifically designed to work directly
with the text. Lecture outlines map each chapter's content, giving
students a template to follow during class lectures. Then after the
lecture, the study guide features homework problems and quizzes
that allow students to test how well they have mastered each
chapter's content. The study guide also includes learning
activities to provide students with hands-on application. They will
be able to do these tasks:
- Use large data sets to practice data analysis techniques,
including use of statistical analysis software
- Complete tasks that emphasize chapter content
- Test their understanding by reviewing select answers provided to
the homework problems, student activities, and mastery items (some
of which are presented in the text)
Measurement and Evaluation in Human Performance, Fourth
Edition, continues to provide a solid presentation of basic
measurement concepts along with the opportunity to apply the
concepts through the interactive study guide. With its emphasis on
understanding and practicing the use of sound measurement
techniques, this fourth edition prepares students and professionals
to identify problems and make solid decisions in the realm of human
performance.
For over 150 years Britain's railways have relied on a system of
semaphore signalling, but by 2020, all semaphore signals and
lineside signal boxes will be gone. A Contemporary Perspective on
GWR Signalling provides a unique record of the last operational
mechanical signalling and infrastructure on Britain's railway
network, as it applied to the former Great Western Railway (and
lines owned jointly with other companies). It also includes a
comprehensive explanation of what mechanical signalling is and how
it works. There is detailed coverage of the signal boxes and
infrastructure on Network Rail, including routes through
Shrewsbury, Hereford, Worcester, Cornwall, Chester and North
Warwickshire. Beautifully illustrated with over 400 contemporary
images and with detailed information from a 2003-2014 survey, this
is an essential resource for anyone with an interest in the
traditional signalling systems of railways in Britain.
Megachurch pastor Allen Jackson invites readers on a 100-day adventure
of
experiencing God through ten biblical practices that will reignite
their faith and
transform their lives.
Many Christians experience low points in their faith, times when their
spiritual lives
have grown cold, stagnant, or routine. They feel frustrated and
desperate to
reconnect with God. Yet encouragement alone is not enough. We need
God's power to
bring transformation, and we need specific tools and a focused intent
to know the
Lord. Drawing upon years of pastoral ministry and his own experience,
Allen Jackson
has developed a 100-day plan to reinvigorate a believer's life,
organized around ten
declarations of intent, including:
- I Intend to Grow Spiritually
- I Intend to Read the Gospels
- I Intend to Pray Daily
- I Intend to Honor God in My Home
- I Intend to Work with Integrity
A simple investment of twenty minutes a day will create an unstoppable
momentum
in readers' lives. Their hearts are opened to new possibilities with
God where his
purposes unfold and where the fruit of his rewards are found.
This informative book provides a step-by-step account of the
construction, from scratch, of a model railway called Dovedale. The
model is operated like a real modern railway and was built entirely
by the author within a strict low budget, using, wherever possible,
recycled materials. Moreover, Dovedale is based on a specific
prototype that exists in Buxton in Derbyshire, where freight trains
run into an interchange siding, the locomotive runs round the train
and then departs to a different destination. Some model railways
are operated somewhat chaotically and are characterized by frequent
derailments and locomotives that stop arbitrarily. If you wish to
move away from this kind of layout and construct a model railway
that operates realistically and reflects more closely the way that
railways actually work in the second decade of the 21st century,
then this is the book for you. Whilst constantly emphasizing
realistic operation, the book covers layout planning and
construction, controllers, point motors, power supply, cables and
connectors, ways of operating traffic flows, signalling, track
droppers, control panels and wiring, control and interlocking,
lighting, sequence and block bells, the use of closed circuit
television, and much more.

Known as the Prairies, these tank engines of the 2-6-2T variety
were some of Churchward's earliest designs and were the precursor
for successful variations of one of the classes - numbered 51XX
until 1949. There were two basic types, the smaller type for branch
lines and the larger type mostly for outer suburban work in London
and Birmingham, but also used as banking engines at Sapperton,
Rattery, Hemerdon and Dainton inclines. The smaller 45XX class
started off as a class of seventy-five engines, but were eventually
developed by Collett into a class more than double the size. They
saw service on the St Ives portion of the Cornish Riviera Express
and the Pwllheli portion of the Cambrian Coast Express. Profusely
illustrated throughout and packed with technical detail, Allen
Jackson tells the story of the Great Western Railway's Prairie
class locomotives.
Great Western Railway Stars, Castles and Kings examines the history
and workings of these legendary classes of passenger steam
locomotives, the first of which, the North Star, was built in 1906.
Richly illustrated with over 200 photographs, the book includes
illustrated explanations of how Great Western Railway steam engines
work; details of the engines' work on named expresses and in
ordinary service; overview of the survivors, heritage organizations
and their futures; technical specifications and timelines of each
class and finally, GWR and British Rail Motive Power Depot codes
and train head codes.
