This book provides insights into the lived experiences of
researchers as they negotiate the undulating terrain of the world
of paradigms and seek to find their niche. Each chapter presents
the journeys of postgraduate candidates, early career researchers
and established scholars, starting with an overview of their
paradigm, the application of the paradigm to their specific
research context, and concluding with the authors reflecting on
their identification with and use of the paradigm. The volume
acknowledges that determining the paradigm that best aligns with a
scholar's personal ideologies and the underlying assumptions of the
research can be rather daunting, challenging and perplexing to
scholars who are starting their research journey. It offers an
accessible exploration of research paradigms and will be a valuable
resource for postgraduate researchers, emerging scholars and PhD
supervisors.

Somatostatins (SST) form a family of cyclopeptides that are mainly
produced by normal endocrine, gastrointestinal, immune and neuronal
cells, as well as by certain tumours. By binding to
G-protein-coupled receptors on target cells, SST act as
neuromodulators and neurotransmitters, as well as potent inhibitors
of various secretory processes and cell proliferation. In this
book, the authors discuss the synthesis, mechanisms-of-action and
physiological effects of somatostatins. Topics include the effects
of somatostatin in animal models of retinal disease; radiolabelled
somatostatin analogues for use in molecular imaging; somatostain
analogs as a treatment for congenital hyperinsulinism; somatostain
and its receptors in the mammalian cochlea; diagnostic accuracy of
positron emission tomography with somatostatin analogues in
gastroenteropancreatic and thoracic neuroendocrine tumours.
Good content is everywhere. In our digital world we are content
rich, but quality poor. Good content surrounds us, but it begs to
be collected, transformed, and shared. And who better to distill
and dismantle it for the benefit of learning communities than
today’s learning and development professional? Curation isn’t
novel in itself, and there’s much to learn from the successes of
others. News sites commonly curate stories adding their own
analysis. Retailers and marketers crowdsource ideas from consumers.
Businesses build curation strategies to leverage product reviews.
Ready, Set, Curate: 8 Learning Experts Tell You How shows you how
to elevate the most important content from an endless sea of
learning information and offers strategies to better connect with
your audience. Using case studies and relevant examples, eight
curation experts share tips and best practices for creating a
curation strategy and collecting content that is relevant to your
learning communities. It’s a brave new world. And we won’t have
to write any of it—if we get digital curation right.
