A Democracy That Works argues that rather than corporate donations,
Republican gerrymandering and media manipulation, the conservative
ascendancy reflects the reconstruction of the rules that govern
work that has disempowered workers. Using six historical case
studies from the emergence of the New Deal, and its later
overtaking by the conservative neoliberal agenda, to today's
intersectional social justice movements, Stephen Amberg deploys
situated institutional analysis to show how real actors created the
rules that empowered liberal democracy for 50 years and then how
Democrats and Republicans undermined democracy by changing those
rules, thereby organizing working-class people out of American
politics. He draws on multidisciplinary studies to argue that when
employees are organized to participate at work, they are also
organized to participate in politics to press for accountable
government. In doing so, the book opens up analytical space to
understand the unprecedented threat to liberal democracy in the
U.S. A Democracy That Works is a fresh account of the crisis of
democracy that illuminates how historical choices about the role of
workers in the polity shaped America's liberal democracy during the
20th century. It will appeal to scholars of American politics and
American political development, labor and social movements,
democracy and comparative politics.
Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the
1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly
expensive. We are republishing these classic works in affordable,
high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork.
Corporate entrepreneurship involves new business creation within
established companies, the strategic renewal of existing business,
and, ultimately, the search for sustainable competitive advantage
in an increasingly globalised economy. Yet it remains elusive for
many firms. In a collaboration between a practitioner and academic,
Joe J. Amberg and Sara L. McGaughey explore corporate
entrepreneuring within a large conglomerate multinational
enterprise: Siemens AG. In early 2009, following a prolonged period
of business stagnation and a huge bribery scandal, Siemens' top
management identified a severe lack of entrepreneurship as a
critical issue. The strengthening of 'local entrepreneurship'
became a new priority in the strategic planning for 2010 to 2014.
By examining three contrasting ventures in the Siemens business
unit Fire Safety between 2008 and 2012, the authors identify key
drivers and impediments that sustain inertia in corporate
entrepreneuring within this global organisation. This study offers
an insightful contribution to our growing - yet still fledgling -
understanding of corporate entrepreneurship in global corporations,
highlighting the importance of context, interdependencies between
critical factors, and the false promise of universal best practice.
Now adopted by over 40 states, the Common Core State Standards
provide a clear and consistent framework for public school systems
as they develop student learning goals that define the path to
readiness for college, careers, and informed citizenship. While
each state is developing its own procedures for adoption of the
Standards, individual teachers will continue to hold the ultimate
responsibility for devising lesson plans and tailoring instruction
to meet these benchmarks. Making Language Matter will help
prospective and practicing teachers develop lessons to meet the
benchmarks enumerated in the Standards for the English Language
Arts categories: language, speaking and listening, writing, and
reading. A timely text for literacy education courses, it explores
language topics within these categories and suggests pedagogical
approaches and activities for use in 9-12 language arts classrooms.
Using a linguistics approach to unify the study of all the language
arts, it engages readers in learning how to help students make
purposeful language choices essential for both academic and
workplace success.

Groups that are the product of two subgroups are of particular
interest to group theorists. In what way is the structure of the
product related to that of its subgroups? This monograph gives the
first detailed account of the most important results that have been
found about groups of this form over the past 35 years. Although
the emphasis is on infinite groups, some relevant theorems about
finite products of groups are also proved. The material presented
will be of interest for research students and specialists in group
theory. In particular, it can be used in seminars or to supplement
a general group theory course. A special chapter on conjugacy and
splitting theorems obtained by means of the cohomology of groups
has never appeared in book form and should be of independent
interest.
Martin Wiener develops a model that comprises 29 critical success
factors which are classified into four distinct groups: internal
suitability, internal management, external suitability, and
external management factors. He shows that the external management
factors are particularly relevant for the successful implementation
of an offshore software development project and that the perception
of the individual critical success factors greatly depends on the
company perspective.

This lively introduction to the study of language explores American
English and its place within contemporary society, highlighting the
role of language in our daily lives. Beginning with a definition of
language, the text unpacks the basic concepts used in linguistics,
placing them in the context of real-life situations. Using examples
from popular culture, the authors show how the study of language is
relevant to students' experience. Teachers and students will
appreciate the book's innovative structure, designed to build an
understanding of how different aspects of language work together. A
variety of exercises - individual, group, discussion, research - is
provided to support every teaching style. Imaginatively organised
and fun to use, American English is the ideal guide to language
study for students taking the subject as a general education
requirement, beginning undergraduates in linguistics, and future
teachers of English.
Vor 500 Jahren, 1516, erschien Thomas Morus' "Utopia". Der Text
machte Furore.
Formen reichen vom klassischen Staatsroman uber Architektur, Film
und Musik bis zu konkreten Umsetzungsversuchen als gelebte Utopie;
Dystopien.
erhoeht. Dadurch kommen klassische Fuhrungskonzepte zunehmend an
Nahrungsbestandteilen, Genu giften, Arzneimitteln, Arbeitsstoffen,
Narkotika, krebserzeugenden Stoffen, der Gerichtsmedizin, sowie die
Regulationen innerhalb toxikologischer Untersuchungen.
Ausgangspunkt dieses Buches ist die Fragestellung, wodurch
prozessorientierte betriebliche Informationssysteme gekennzeichnet

So bildet
die Leitidee von Czerny einer interdisziplinaren multimodalen

entscheidendes Arbeitskonzept. Die enge Kooperation mit dem von
Karl Heinrich Bauer gegrtindeten Deutschen Krebsforschungszentrum
