Drawing on empirical research, this fascinating new book explores the embodied experiences of 'gym goers' and the fitness cultures that are constructed within gyms and fitness spaces. Gym Bodies offers a personal, interactive, ethnographic account of the multiplicity of contemporary gym practices, spaces and cultures, including bodybuilding, CrossFit and Spinning. It argues that gym bodies are historically constructed, social, sensual, emotional and political; that experience intersects with multiple embodied identities; and that fitness cultures are profoundly important in shaping the body in wider contemporary culture. This is important reading for students, tutors and researchers working in sport and exercise studies, sociology of the body, health studies, leisure, cultural studies, gender and education. It is also a valuable resource for policy makers and practitioners within the fields of sport, leisure, health and education.
There has been an increase in awareness (and perhaps occurrence) of individual and organized cheating on tests. Recent reports of widespread problems with state student accountability tests and teacher certification testing have raised questions about the very validity of assessment programs. While there are several books that specifically detail the issues of test security cheating on assessments, few outline the statistical procedures used for detecting various types of potential test fraud and the associated research findings. Without a significant research literature base, the new generation of researchers will have little opportunity or incentive to improve on existing methods. Enlisting a variety of experts and scholars in different fields of testing, this edited volume expands on the current literature base by including examples of detailed research findings arrived at by statistical methodology. It also provides a synthesis of the current state of the art with regard to the statistical detection of testing infidelity, particularly for large-scale assessments. By presenting methods currently used by testing organizations and research on new methods, the volume offers an important forum for expanding the literature in this area.

One of the reasons we love to spend our money on greasy fast food is because of how quickly we can get it. We don't have to spend a lot of time preparing food when we can swing by a drive through and immediately have an entire meal brought out for us. Unfortunately, when done too often, constantly purchasing fast food can take a big chunk out of our pockets and our health. Lunch in a Flash is the perfect alternative to buying your lunch every day. It offers a way to save your wallet, your health, and your taste buds (because the same lunch menu everyday does get a bit repetitive). The book offers a wide variety of ways to create your own healthy lunch, so you'll be able to look forward to trying out your new lunch whether you're at home or stuck in the office. Of course, our schedules change from day to day. One day, you may have plenty of time to sit down and create a large lunch that you can pack away from the next few days. Other times, you'll barely be able to gather enough time to scrape out a meager quick lunch or sandwich. That's why the book offers lunch ideas with a variety of preparation times, so you'll be able to make a great tasting lunch for yourself (or others) no matter how long you have.
Desserts in a Flash is full of quick and delicious ways to finish any meal. Some meals just aren't complete without a dessert to wrap up the evening. Other times, we have a sweet tooth that we will do anything within our power to satisfy. Occasionally, when creating a meal, we realize that it simply wouldn't be right to serve it without at least having something to end it with. Unfortunately, when we realize that a dessert would be the perfect ending to a meal, it's too late. Sometimes recipes call for a lot of time that we will have to spend mixing ingredients, waiting for the baking time in the oven, or sitting while they chill in the refrigerator. Frankly, desserts just seem to take up too much time, time we often don't have. Luckily for us though, you don't always need to have the whole day before you so you can create desserts. Desserts in a Flash provides you with numerous recipes for delicious desserts that take no time at all to create. You can have your cake and a pie at the same time Or you can enjoy a no-bake cake on those occasions when you don't want a hotter kitchen. Lack of time will never again prevent you from creating a scrumptious dessert for friends, family, or just to satisfy a sweet tooth that has happened to strike you.
Snacks have become an integral part of anyone's daily diet. Good healthy snacks are prized for their ease of creation and for requiring only a handful of ingredients when they any preparation is needed. Our shelves and cupboards are fully stocked with a wide variety of fast snacks that we can reach for at any time, like popcorn, chips, and snack mix. Unfortunately, constantly purchasing premade snacks from the supermarket can be a costly endeavor, both to our wallets and to our health. Snacks that we buy off the shelves tend to be expensive, particularly if we buy them constantly, and are often coated in harmful chemicals and preservatives. So if you're searching for a solution, Snacks in a Flash (Fast Food From Home) provides a variety of recipes for delicious snacks and is the ideal companion book for anyone trying to start creating their own quick snacks rather than attempting to simply buy them. Some of the appetizing snacks included are Sweet Popcorn, Bread Sticks, and Popular Party Mix. Why stick with bland store bought snacks when you can create delicious snacks in a flash?
Frankly, we never have much time in most days. With the usual 9-5 job, or a full family (or even both), and the hectic day to day life that interferes with our schedules, there's hardly ever any time to actually sit down and have dinner, much less actually work to create an appetizing meal. Even if there was, just the thought of the all the work and the clean up afterwards is enough to drive anyone to microwave meals or fast food. Dinner in a Flash (Fast Food From Home) with 30-minute meals is the savior to moments like this. Almost every dinner recipe mentioned in this book can be fixed in 30 minutes or less (and that's from start to table). That's better than the time it would take to drive to a fast food restaurant and wait for your order Even better, the number of dishes used has been kept to a minimum so you can spend less time cleaning, and more time eating. Recipes include a recipe for the classic chicken and rice combination, a quick way to make lasagna, and even two easy ways to enjoy pork chops. Isn't it time to enjoy a nice dinner with your family? A dinner that tastes better (and costs less) than greasy fast food or microwaved frozen meals?
"Breakfast is the most important meal of the day." We hear it all the time. Or, if there's one meal to eat, it's breakfast. Its benefits are vital to a healthy living; it helps boost your metabolism, and keeps your hunger at bay until lunchtime, letting you stay away from any unhealthy snacks. Unfortunately, despite how important a healthy breakfast is, very few of us tend to sit down and eat it (or worse, grab an unhealthy cream filled bagel or cereal bar). The main reason so many of us avoid eating breakfast (or worse, settling for unhealthy fast food) is because we simply don't have the required time. Now though, with Breakfast in a Flash, you can learn all sorts of recipes for delicious and appetizing breakfast foods that you can create in a short span of time. Great breakfast ideas include a quick omelet in a mug, several different ways to include fruit, and delicious muffins and pancakes that can be prepared on an earlier day for quick availability of a fresh, nutritious start to a busy day. You'll be able to utilize all the benefits that come from eating breakfast, from a better metabolism to avoiding unhealthy snacking before lunch, all without having to resort to greasy fast food or cream covered pastries.

While using a slow cooker in a 'flash' may seem impossible, I can assure you that it definitely is not. Obviously, the actual cooking will take some time, but the preparation of the recipe should use as little time as possible. All you have to do is mix the ingredients, toss them in the slow cooker, and step away while your meal sits for a few hours. The method of preparation makes these recipes absolutely perfect for when you have a long day ahead of you. Have a day at work?
