This book provides an in-depth view on Bourdieu's empirical work, thereby specially focusing on the construction of the social space and including the concept of the habitus. Themes described in the book include amongst others: * the theory and methodology for the construction of "social spaces", * the relation between various "fields" and "the field of power", * formal construction and empirical observation of habitus, * the formation, accumulation, differentiation of and conversion between different forms of capital, * relations in geometric data analysis. The book also includes contributions regarding particular applications of Bourdieu's methodology to traditional and new areas of research, such as the analysis of institutional, international and transnational fields. It further provides a systematic introduction into the empirical construction of the social space.

In particular, the users' mate preferences, choices, strategies, and interactions are analyzed using the innovative method of click-stream observations and web-questionnaire data. For the purpose of these analyses, two major theories are used - an explicit theory of individual mate choice, and the more general relational theory developed by Pierre Bourdieu, which helps to highlight the social structures both underlying and resulting from mating online. Results show that online dating is not a partner marker free from social structure, but that the traditional social conditions found offline are also reproduced in this virtual setting. In contrast to the picture drawn by media discourse and advertising, online dating represents a partner market which fulfills the promise of happiness in a socially differential way.

Das Feld der Macht bildet ein Schlusselkonzept der Soziologie Bourdieus, ist in seiner Bedeutung fur die Theoriearchitektur allerdings bislang weitgehend verkannt worden. Der Band liefert die erste umfassende Rekonstruktion des Ansatzes und skizziert ein gesellschaftstheoretisches Angebot, das etablierte Dichotomien wie jene von Eliten und Exklusion, Differenzierung und sozialer Ungleichheit sowie Globalitat und Nationalstaat aufbricht und eine Vielzahl von Phanomenen in den Blick zu nehmen erlaubt.

Die Sonographie gehort zu den Routinemethoden der Schilddrusendiagnostik. Das vorliegende Buch vermittelt knapp und systematisch die Grundlagen der Interpretation sonomorphologischer Schilddrusenveranderungen. Dabei beschrankt es sich nicht auf die Beschreibung von Sonogrammen, sondern stellt auch den Zusammenhang zur Histopathologie her und entwickelt darauf aufbauend einen Schlussel zur Interpretation der nodalen Nuklidanreicherung. Die Abhandlung der szintigraphischen Erscheinungsformen sonographisch abgrenzbarer Schilddrusenknoten zeigt, dass vielfach allein durch Sonogramm und Szintigramm eine definitive Diagnose moglich ist. Arzte und Facharzte finden in diesem Buch uber das aktuelle Basiswissen hinaus eine wichtige Hilfe fur die Bewaltigung differentialdiagnostischer Probleme.

In diesem Forschungsvorhoben wurden Algorithmen zur Aufbereitung kom- plizierter Netzplonstrukturen fUr eine moschinelle Netzplondarstellung entwickelt. Die Aufbereitung wurde noch zwei verschiedenen Gesichtspunk- ten vorgenommen. Zum einen wurde die Struktur durch sogenonnte Struk- turknoten ergonzt, mit denen sich in der graphischen Darstellung Kreu- zungen und Darstellungsfloche einsporen lassen. Zum andern wurde die Struktur von unwichtigen Anordnungsbeziehungen aufgrund eines neuen Kri- teriums, der Pufferzeit einer Anordnungsbeziehung, befreit. Durch die zuletzt genonnte Form der Aufbereitung ist es meglich, die graphische Netzplondorstellung auf die terminlich gesehen wesentlichen Informotionen zu beschronken und diese in einem Ubersichtlichen Bild zu prosentieren. Kreuzungsreduktion und geringerer Flochenbedorf fUr die grophische Dor- stellung resultieren ous der Elimination unwichtiger Anordnungsbeziehun- gen. Anordnungsbeziehungen die parallel zu einem schon existierenden Weg verloufen und doher im allgemeinen nicht nur unwichtig, sondern ouch UberflUssig sind, kennen in einer gesonderten Liste ausgegeben wer- den, um yom Anwender aus dem Eingabedotensotz eliminiert zu werden. Die Entscheidung, ob die Anordnungsbeziehung totsochlich UberflUssig ist, wird nicht durch einen Algorithmus getroffen, sondern bleibt dem Anwen- der Uberlossen.
