Der Verfasser hat die Absicht, m dem vorliegenden Buche dem Eisenhuttenchemiker in moeglichst kurz gefasster Form die verschiedenen Methoden der Eisen- und Stahl- u. s. w. Untersuchung, sowie die dazu noethigen Apparate und Gerathschaften vorzufuhren. Trotzdem ich mich nach Moeglichkeit bemuht habe, das Original genau zu ubersetzen, so sah ich mich doch, beson- ders im ersten Abschnitt, genoethigt, einige Aenderungen vor- zunehmen, da die vom Verfasser beschriebenen Apparate zum Theil veraltet, zum Theil auch fur hiesige Verhaltnisse nicht angebracht sind.
