During the final year of World War II, the defending Axis forces
were steadily driven from southern skies by burgeoning
Anglo-American power. This was despite the steady withdrawal of
units to more demanding areas. In this fifth volume of the series
the activities of the Allied tactical air forces in support of the
armies on the ground – as their opponents were steadily extracted
from northern Italy and the Balkans for the final defence of the
central European homeland – are described in detail. The book
commences with coverage of the final fierce air-sea battles over
the Aegean which preceded the advance northwards to Rome and the
ill-conceived British attempt to secure the Dodecanese islands
following the armistice with Italy. The authors also deal fully and
comprehensively with the advance northwards following the
occupation of Rome, and the departure of forces to support the
invasion of France from the Riviera coast, coupled with the
formation of a new Balkan Air Force in eastern Italy to pursue the
German armies withdrawing from Yugoslavia and take possession of
newly freed Greece. The effect of the creation within the same area
of the US and RAF strategic forces to join the Allied Combined
Bombing Offensive is discussed. The final volume in the series will
be concerned most especially with this latter campaign.

Bayesian statistical methods have become widely used for data
analysis and modelling in recent years, and the BUGS software has
become the most popular software for Bayesian analysis worldwide.
Authored by the team that originally developed this software, The
BUGS Book provides a practical introduction to this program and its
use. The text presents complete coverage of all the functionalities
of BUGS, including prediction, missing data, model criticism, and
prior sensitivity. It also features a large number of worked
examples and a wide range of applications from various disciplines.
The book introduces regression models, techniques for criticism and
comparison, and a wide range of modelling issues before going into
the vital area of hierarchical models, one of the most common
applications of Bayesian methods. It deals with essentials of
modelling without getting bogged down in complexity. The book
emphasises model criticism, model comparison, sensitivity analysis
to alternative priors, and thoughtful choice of prior distributions
all those aspects of the "art" of modelling that are easily
overlooked in more theoretical expositions. More pragmatic than
ideological, the authors systematically work through the large
range of "tricks" that reveal the real power of the BUGS software,
for example, dealing with missing data, censoring, grouped data,
prediction, ranking, parameter constraints, and so on. Many of the
examples are biostatistical, but they do not require domain
knowledge and are generalisable to a wide range of other
application areas. Full code and data for examples, exercises, and
some solutions can be found on the book's website.

After the events in Wounded Sky, Cole and Eva arrive in Winnipeg,
the headquarters of Mihko Laboratories. They are intent on
destroying the company once and for all, but their plans are
thwarted when a new threat surfaces. When Cole becomes mired in

dreams, or are they leading him to a horrible truth? Perfect for
fans of superheroes, The Bloodhound Gang returns in this all-new
graphic novel series, The Reckoner Rises.
After finding out Mihko reinstated the Reckoner Initiative in
Breakdown, Cole and Eva confronted Mihko head-on. But when Eva
stumbles across a secret laboratory, she finds her worst nightmares
come to life. After a vicious battle with Mihko's newest test
subject leaves Cole close to death, Eva is forced to continue their
investigation without him. With Brady missing and Cole in recovery,
Eva is on her own. What new terrors has Mihko created? Can they be
stopped? And can Eva find Brady before it's too late?

Neuroscience research deals with the physiology, biochemistry,
anatomy and molecular biology of neurons and neural circuits and
especially their association with behavior and learning. Of late,
neuroscience research is playing a pivotal role in industry,
science writing, government program management, science advocacy,
and education. In the process of learning as experiencing
knowledge, the human brain plays a vital role as the central
governing system to map the images of learning in the human brain
which may be called educational neuroscience. It provides means to
develop a common language and bridge the gulf between educators,
psychologists and neuroscientists. The emerging field of
educational neuroscience presents opportunities as well as
challenges for education, especially when it comes to assess the
learning disorders and learning intentions of the students. The
most effective learning involves recruiting multiple regions of the
brain for the learning task. These regions are associated with such
functions as memory, the various senses, volitional control, and
higher levels of cognitive functioning. By considering biological
factors, research has advanced the understanding of specific
learning difficulties, such as dyslexia and dyscalculia. Likewise,
neuroscience is uncovering why certain types of learning are more
rewarding than others. Of late, a lot of research has gone in the
field of neural networks and deep learning. It is worthwhile to
consider these research areas in investigating the interplay
between the human brain and human formal/natural learning. This
book is intended to bring together the recent advances in
neuroscience research and their influence on the evolving learning
systems with special emphasis on the evolution of a learner-centric
framework in outcome based education by taking into cognizance the
learning abilities and intentions of the learners.
Acclaimed author Andrew Thomas has chosen fifty fascinating cameos
of individual actions or incidents across a wide variety of major
and minor campaigns and scenarios ranging from the First World War
to the present day. Each selection is accompanied by relevant,
often rare, photographs. So, from the Battle of Mons in 1914
through shooting down a Zeppelin over Teeside, to WW2 Timor Ace
‘Butch’ Gordon in his Beaufighter in 1943 and a nightmare for
Halifaxes over Nuremburg in 1944, to SAAF fighters over Angola in
September 1985 and army support tasks in Mali in 2021, with many
more in between, the author’s hand-picked personal choices make
for gripping reading. A must for all those interested in the war in
the air throughout history.
This book examines the effects that land-use changes (notably
agricultural intensification, logging, soil erosion, urbanisation
and mining) have on soil characteristics and processes in tropical
and savannah environments. It covers a range of geographical
regions and environments as impacts of land use change are often
site specific. The effects of land use change on various aspects of
the soil ecosystem from both a chemical and biological perspective
will be examined.

From the inception of the RAF in 1918 the new service developed
traditions fast. In particular, its squadrons assumed a combination
of heraldic devices and colourful markings with which to identify
machines and inspire men. With the potential onset if war in 1938,
the very public and well-known unit markings were replaced by
two-letter codes, designed to confuse the enemy. Through the uneasy
period leading to the formal declaration of war, these codes became
well-known locally and there was a second set for application with
the onset of war. As the war progressed the unit codes expanded to
incorporate numerals and the system expanded to the USAFF and the
Commonwealth and the Allied units. To preserve secrecy the codes
were only ever listed in a series of top-secret documents and the
previous set destroyed. The authors have painstaking researched the
codes and building on from earlier works have produced the
definitive work on the subject.
