This book is the culmination of more than 125 years of tradition
and countless "Documentation Days," during which quilting council
members record the block technique, age, batting, backing, and
color of each quilt their fellow quilters trust them to preserve.
Thirteen chapters explore important historical quilting moments,
traditional and modern quilting themes, and the beginnings of the
Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum and the Quilter's Newsletter magazine.
Different council members researched, photographed, and recorded
the most significant events, memories, quilters, and quilts that
have influenced the progress of quilting in Colorado. Early
Coloradans picked their own cotton, saved every scrap of used
fabric, and made quilts from scratch to support their families and
for therapy as they recovered from serious injuries and illnesses.
Many of these sacred stitches are still works in progress and
continue to illustrate what's important to these dedicated
craftspeople.
This book is the first of its kind to paint a comprehensive picture
of the manner in which the European Union (the EU) interacts with
transnational policy networks (TPNs). The TPNs covered are those in
a variety of fields including: conflict-prone natural resources,
health, energy security, migration, human trafficking, combating of
terrorism financing and climate change. The chapters are developed
around six main lines of inquiry. The lines of inquiry articulated
are: modalities through which the EU influences TPNs around the
world, TPNs' influence of policy and decision-making within the EU,
conditions under which engagement between the TPNs and the EU may
be regarded as successful, the identity and location of the TPNs
and finally the added value or futility of a strategy developed in
Brussels to weaken or fortify interactions with the networks
studied. The importance of TPNs should be approached from the angle
of the heightened attention now placed on informal modes of
decision making. Increasingly there is a sense that many
international decisions are adopted and internalized through
networks that can be efficient yet wanting in transparency. The
book unveils complex debates on the inter-phase between
inter-governmental / supranational entities like the EU, on the one
hand, and networks, on the other. The physiognomy of this
inter-phase matters not only for the EU but also for other such
inter-governmental/ supranational bodies as well as networks. This
book was previously published as a special issue of Contemporary
Politics.

Emotions are as old as humankind. But what do we know about them
and what importance do we assign to them? Emotional Lexicons is the
first cultural history of terms of emotion found in German, French,
and English language encyclopaedias since the late seventeenth
century. Insofar as these reference works formulated normative
concepts, they documented shifts in the way the educated middle
classes were taught to conceptualise emotion by a literary medium
targeted specifically to them. As well as providing a record of
changing language use (and the surrounding debates), many
encyclopaedia articles went further than simply providing basic
knowledge; they also presented a moral vision to their readers and
guidelines for behaviour. Implicitly or explicitly, they
participated in fundamental discussions on human nature: Are
emotions in the mind or in the body? Can we "read" another person's
feelings in their face? Do animals have feelings? Are men less
emotional than women? Are there differences between the emotions of
children and adults? Can emotions be "civilised"? Can they make us
sick? Do groups feel together? Do our emotions connect us with
others or create distance? The answers to these questions are
historically contingent, showing that emotional knowledge was and
still is closely linked to the social, cultural, and political
structures of modern societies. Emotional Lexicons analyses
European discourses in science, as well as in broader society,
about affects, passions, sentiments, and emotions. It does not
presume to refine our understanding of what emotions actually are,
but rather to present the spectrum of knowledge about emotion
embodied in concepts whose meanings shift through time, in order to
enrich our own concept of emotion and to lend nuances to the
interdisciplinary conversation about them.
he Search for Europe analyses the present and future of the old
continent and its integration project, surely the most ambitious
political and economic integration project ever attempted in
history, a benchmark for similar processes in other regions. The
book is divided into three main sections: "The economic foundations
of the European project", "Europe and its nations: Politics,
society and culture", and "The unresolved Limits of Europe and the
new global powers". It features pieces written by international
experts such as Javier Solana, Barry Eichengreen, Philip Cooke,
Bichara Khader, Vivien Ann Schmidt, John Peet and Thomas
Christiansen, among others.
Cheetahs: Biology and Conservation reports on the science and
conservation of the cheetah. This volume demonstrates the
interdisciplinary nature of research and conservation efforts to
study and protect the cheetah. The book begins with chapters on the
evolution, genetics, physiology, ecology and behavior of the
species, as well as distribution reports from range countries.
These introductory chapters lead into discussions of the challenges
facing cheetah survival, including habitat loss, declining prey
base, human-wildlife conflict, illegal trade, and newly-emerging
threats, notably climate change. This book also focuses on
conservation strategies and solutions, including environmental
education and alternative livelihoods. Chapters on the role of
captive cheetahs to conservation and the long-term research of the
species are included, as are a brief discussion of the methods and
analyses used to study the cheetah. The book concludes with the
conservation status and future outlook of the species. Cheetahs:
Biology and Conservation is a valuable resource for the regional
and global communities of cheetah conservationists, researchers,
and academics. Although cheetah focussed the book provides
information relevant to the study of broader topics such as
wildlife conservation, captive breeding, habitat management,
conservation biology and animal behaviour. Cover photograph by

A Thousand Flowers is a beautifully contemplative collection - Some
of Heather Ann Schmidt's finest work. Inspired by such poets as
Hafiz and Rumi, Schmidt cultivates a variety of spiritually divine
poems that are as elegant and delicate as flowers themselves.
Schmidt also has a way of using rich imagery, color and nostalgia
in her work, which allows each sentimental piece to blossom in ones
mind's eye. Many of the poems delve into the celestial and the soul
like the poem, The Star: Break me open / Like the inside of a star
/ Filled with little fires / Of pastel vapor and darkness. This
body of original work fills readers with her reach of passion, a
passion that echoes a timeless conversation.
Twenty-year IT industry communications leader Leigh Ann Schmidt
wants every company to be good at public relations. Corporate PR,
as a strategic driver for businesses, is dying because of the
mismanagement of the function in-house, an over-reliance on outside
PR agencies, and an increasing gap between business knowledge and
functional output. Aimed at CEOs, Business-Driven Communications
shows organizations how they can elevate their communications teams
to become drivers of profitable bottom-line growth. But readers
don't need an MBA to read it. The author's simple, direct and
to-the-point style makes it easy for anybody in any business
function - in any industry around the world - to understand how
they can achieve communications excellence.

Deutsch, Abstract: Am 6. Juli 2007 stimmte der Bundesrat dem Gesetz
zur Unternehmensteuerreform 2008 zu. Im Rahmen dieses Gesetzes
wurde auch die Einfuhrung der Abgeltungssteuer zum 1. Januar 2009
geregelt.
Kapitalertrage sehr wichtig."1 Somit sollten Anlegergelder in
bzw. Vorteile fur die Anleger dargestellt. ...
