Working with Conflict 2 reflects the accumulated wisdom of over
3000 peacebuilding practitioners from 70 countries over the 20
years since the first Working with Conflict book was published. Its
focus is on understanding and transforming conflict, building
practical strategies for constructive change, analysing power,
addressing violence, healing wounds and building movements for
change. It is relevant to all who are trying to bring about change
in intractable situations, from grassroots to policy level,
including those working in the fields of peacebuilding,
humanitarian assistance, development, climate change, human rights,
gender equality, trauma healing and democracy. Working with
Conflict 2 is an accessible practical resource, for both
individuals and organisations working and researching how to work
in conflict-prone and unstable parts of the world. Easy to use,
including helpful visual materials, it provides a range of
practical tools - processes, ideas, techniques - for tackling
conflict, as well as providing links to other key conflict-related
and peacebuilding resources, including organisations, publications
and websites.
The Hebrew Bible and art reside at the core of this book, which
analyzes the iconographic representation of several women of the
Bible. The contributors consider the ways in which the biblical
texts regarding these women had been read and understood throughout
time and the means by which they were represented. Each study also
explores the different values associated with these representations
according to the problems, worries and concerns of each period.
Drawing upon disciplines such as theology, philology or history of
art, the essays within this volume provide a cross-sectional,
plural and rich approach. In focusing upon iconographic
representation, numerous visual cultures of the last millennium are
explored, and special emphasis is placed upon several integral
biblical women such as Bathsheba, Moses' mother, the Pharaoh's
Daughter, Ruth, Naomi and Deborah, and their lasting influence upon
Western art and culture. This book pursues an understanding of the
history of the transmission and reception of the Bible in general,
and of the women of the Old Testament in particular.
Unlike most previous publications that focus on menstruation, just a part of the cycle, The Menstrual Cycle presents a well researched study of the entire menstrual cycle and its relationship to women's lives. Anne Walker shows that women are neither the victims of raging hormonal fluctuations nor entirely unaffected by them. Women's own experiences in different culture are contrasted with medical textbook descriptions and the "normal" is found to be rather elusive. Of particular interest to health psychologists, discourse analysts and women's studies, this book should also be read by doctors, nurses and any woman who has felt curious about her menstrual cycle and its possible effects.

First published in 1990, this book provides a broad coverage of the
subject of human nutrition. Starting with a discussion of the basic
chemistry or the major food substances it goes on to deal with the
digestion, absorption and metabolism of food and with the normal
and abnormal functioning of the major organs involved in
metabolism. The concept of a balanced diet is discussed in detail
and the special dietary requirements of various human groups are
considered together with the problems of over- and under-nutrition.
The final chapter covers the ways in which we deal with food from
production to consumption.
Analyses Muslim-Muslim divisions within northern Nigeria, which are
as important for understanding the violence in the region as those
between Muslim and Christian (for which, see the companion volume,
Creed and Grievance),with consequences for long-term peacemaking.
Nigerian society has long been perceived as divided along religious
lines, between Muslims and Christians, but alongside this there is
an equally important polarization within the Muslim population in
beliefs, rituals and sectarian allegiance. This book highlights the
crucial issue of intra-Muslim pluralism and conflict in Nigeria.
Conflicting interpretations of texts and contexts have led to
fragmentation within northern Nigerian Islam, and differentIslamic
sects have often resorted to violence against each other in pursuit
of 'the right path'. The doctrinal justification of violence was
first perfected against other Muslim groups, before being extended
to non-Muslims: conflict between Muslim groups therefore preceded
the violence between Muslims and Christians. It will be impossible
to manage the relationship between the latter, without addressing
the schisms within the Muslim community itself. Nigeria: Premium

Few people doubt that the mother's milk provides the best food for
the full-terrn infant during the first few months of life, when the
digestive, absorptive and excretory systems are relatively
immature. The develop ment of the digestive enzymes is detailed in
Chapter 4. The significance of this immaturity first emerged as a
consequence of the pioneering work of Professor Robert McCance and
Dr Elsie Widdowson in human nutrition, when they studied the
electrolyte and nitrogen excretion of babies and young animals. To
quote Professor McCance, 'Inefficient though the kidneys were by
adult standards, they were capable ofmaintaining homeo stasis,
provided the infant and animals were growing while being fed on
food of exactly the right composition - that is, the milk of the
mother. ' (Ashwell, 1993). One should not forget that although the
mother protects the developing baby against much nutritional abuse,
the baby may be still be affected by matemal nutrition, and this is
discussed in Chapter 2. The superior qualities of breast milk are
still recognized, and research continues to discover yet more
factors in breast milk significant to the health of the baby for
possible inclusion in formulas. The immature stage of development
ofthe baby means that while enough nutrients for optimal growth of
all tissues are required, excessive quantities may cause intoxica
tion. Tight specifications are essential, since unlike the adult
the newbom depends on a single food."

In the final decade of the nineteenth century and the early
twentieth century, the United States experienced exponential growth
and a flourishing economy, and with it, a building boom. Grosvenor
Atterbury (1869–1956) produced more than one hundred major
projects, including an array of grand mansions, picturesque
estates, informal summer cottages, and farm groups. However, it was
his role as town planner and civic leader and his work to create
model tenements, hospitals, workers’ housing, and town plans for
which he is most celebrated. His Forest Hills Gardens, designed in
association with the Olmsted Brothers, is lauded as one of the most
highly significant community planning projects of its time. As an
inventor, Atterbury was responsible for one of the country’s
first low-cost, prefabricated concrete construction systems,
introducing beauty and inexpensive good design into the lives of
the working classes. The Architecture of Grosvenor Atterbury is the
first book to showcase the rich and varied repertoire of this
prolific architect whose career spanned six decades and whose work
affected the course of American architecture, planning, and
construction. Illustrated with Jonathan Wallen’s stunning color
photographs and over 250 historic drawings, plans, and photographs,
it also includes a catalogue raisonné and an employee roster. It
is the definitive source on an architect who made an indelible
imprint on the American landscape.
