The seventeen pieces in Ficciones demonstrate the gargantuan powers
of imagination, intelligence, and style of one of the greatest
writers of this or any other century. Borges sends us on a journey
into a compelling, bizarre, and profoundly resonant realm; we enter
the fearful sphere of Pascal’s abyss, the surreal and literal
labyrinth of books, and the iconography of eternal return. More
playful and approachable than the fictions themselves are
Borges’s Prologues, brief elucidations that offer the uninitiated
a passageway into the whirlwind of Borges’s genius and mirror the
precision and potency of his intellect and inventiveness, his
piercing irony, his skepticism, and his obsession with fantasy. To
enter the worlds in Ficciones is to enter the mind of Jorge Luis
Borges, wherein lies Heaven, Hell, and everything in between.
For this new anthology, Anthony Bonner has chosen central texts
from his two-volume compilation, "Selected Works of Ramon Llull".
These works serve as an introduction to the life and writings of
the Catalan (properly, Majorcan) philosopher and mystic,
theologian, and martyr, who lived from 1232 to 1316. Founder of a
school of Arabic and other languages, Llull was also a poet and
novelist and one of the creators of literary Catalan. This volume
contains prefaces on Llull's life, thought and reputation. Of
Llull's works, it offers "Book of the Gentile and the Three Wise
Men", his seminal Christian apology; the "Ars brevis", a summary of
his philosophical system; "The Book of the Lover and the Beloved",
a celebration of mystical love in the courtly tradition; and his
scathing "Book of the Beasts", an excerpt from a narrative widely
acknowledged to be the source of George Orwell's imagery in "Animal
Farm".
An American frigate, tracking down a ship-sinking monster, faces not a living creature but an incredible invention -- a fantastic submarine commanded by the mysterious Captain Nemo. Suddenly a devastating explosion leaves just three survivors, who find themselves prisoners inside Nemo's death ship on an underwater odyssey around the world from the pearl-laden waters of Ceylon to the icy dangers of the South Pole . . .as Captain Nemo, one of the greatest villians ever created, takes his revenge on all society.
More than a marvelously thrilling drama, this classic novel, written in 1870, foretells with uncanny accuracy the inventions and advanced technology of the twentieth century and has become a literary stepping-stone for generations of science fiction writers.
Welcome Back! Before we get started, I got to say this. "Y'all some
sick individuals requesting this follow-up to "Ladies, What's Wrong
With You Now?" called "You Going to Jail Tonight, Bitch!" This book
sprang out of the overwhelming response to Chapter 8. If you didn't
read it, you're going to be lost. It's just like missing an episode
of "Empire" or "As The World Turns." I tried not to leave anyone
out. The old game of man versus woman has created billionaires. The
proverbial "GOOD MAN" and living happily ever after is always
after. This time I'm going to tell it from an O.G. perspective (The
O. G. 411 before 911). I hope the contents of this book helps the
younger generation. The ways of a woman are unknown but here are
some warning signs to let you know when to get the hell out of her
way. This book takes a look at ignorance and tolerance. What people
do for money is bliss. The misuse of power, unknowingly or
knowingly, contributes to a greater evil. No excuses, please.
"Ladies! Now What's Wrong With You?" reflects a little boy seeing
his auntie crying and asking her, "Auntie, What's wrong with you?"
After she explains the situation involving her relationship to him,
she triumphantly tries a again. Later she returns distraught and
dejected and seeks a listening ear. When he sees her tears, he says
in a frustrated tone, "Auntie, Now What's Wrong With You?" Before
publishing this trilogy I asked lots of women to review my
manuscript just to get their opinion and 100 percent of you pointed
to "You Going To Jail Tonight, Bitch!" Laughter and a smile
followed shortly after. There was something about that chapter that
convinced me to share some O.G. Love for the younger males. The
Powers at "B" in all their capitalistic splendor has somehow
convinced women that they have Quote-Un-Quote "A Better Deal.""
Undeniably, when women/men accept this "Better Deal," our kids
suffer, family unity dissolves and selfishness prevails.
The purpose of this book is to enlighten the hearts and spirit of
women and raise the social consciousness of men to the ever
evolving woman. The graphic and poignant conjecture and rhetoric
simply exemplifies the female transformation I've seen over my life
span coupled with historical facts. Some of my readers will be
shocked, some will applaud, and others will be outraged. However,
it is not my intent to demean the progress of women in this
generation or generations in the past. What happened to "Till Death
Do We Part," patience, mercy and sticking together through good and
bad times no matter what? Our kids suffer when it's all said and
done, thereby leaving us elderly and alone in the time when we need
family support in the end. The numbers are climbing exponentially
before our eyes. We are reaching critical mass simply because we
can't see past the Benjamin/M.O.E. (Money Over Everything.)
Alyson, alone and lost in a village in Styrony, quickly becomes
enmeshed in a struggle between the fearful Black Company, the
grumpy but kind-hearted Duke Landsgrafhoffer and a host of woodland
creatures. Among these are thirteen trolls, too shy to show
themselves to most human beings, but armed with odd magical powers
and given to telling rambling stories once they get started.
Excitement and dread are leavened with humor and a surreal touch
that make Waverstack a joy to read. And read it you must if you
want to find out what "waverstack" means
