Transcendental Magic is a classic of occultism, prized for its
wide-ranging wisdom, thorough guidance and revelatory contents.
Written by Eliphas Levi in the mid-19th century, Transcendental
Magic offers seekers of occult knowledge a bounty of guidance and
knowledge. Informed by research spanning many centuries of arcane
arts, the author offers us profound guidance to the ceremonial
rituals one must perform in order to make contact with spirits and
other non-corporeal entities of the universe. In Levi's
explanations we encounter various figures of occult lore. Monad is
synonymous with God; the creator of everything contained in our
physical plane. Derived from the Pythagorean school, through Levi
we learn how Monad interacts with the creation. This discussion is
related to the Kabbalah, which attempts to define the relationship
between what is infinite and what is finite.
The Book of Black Magic is Arthur Edward Waite's magnum opus of
occult lore; this edition contains the author's original icons,
symbols, seals and illustrations. The first part is entitled ""The
Literature of Ceremonial Magic."" Here, Waite examines the
ritualistic traditions which have surrounded the occult movement
for centuries. He notes various texts, and how they each had a
bearing upon the practice of the occult; of magical ceremony; and
the phenomena of spirit summoning. The second part, ""The Complete
Grimoire,"" concerns how those who practice black magic and occult
ritual become versed in the craft. The stringent physical and
mental requirements, and the need to practice a spiritual
attunement and inner ablution, is detailed. Astronomical knowledge
of the planets and their movements is a necessity, as is possession
of a variety of instruments, plus a deep knowledge of the various
symbols and scripts used in the occult craft.
The renowned occult scholar Arthur Edward Waite left no stone
unturned when preparing this meticulously researched volume on the
life and works of the French mystic Louis Claude de Saint-Martin.
Drawing on contemporary biographies, correspondences, and all the
source materials that were available to him at the time, he put
together a biography and summary of Saint-Martin s work that is
still unsurpassed to this day. This edition is presented with
modernised typography and a new and expanded index.
