Work integrated learning manifests itself in many guises, including Work Based Learning, Workplace Learning or Practice Based Learning and occurs within work-like contexts, simulated work conditions, an actual workplace or a combination of these. With the rapid globalization of higher education as well as related changes in social, political, economic, and other conditions over the last 25 years there have been ever increasing expectations for higher education, in general, and Engineering Education, in particular. These expectations are often expressed in terms of the need for Quality Assurance locally, regionally, and globally. In some cases, there is a long tradition of independence and self-regulation of higher education institutions and programs. In other contexts, there has been c- siderable governmental regulation and disciplinary direction over time. The authors in this volume represent essentially all continents and 15 different countries. The common issues that they raise and their accounts of past, present, and future ch- lenges provide a snapshot of the current state of Quality Assurance in higher edu- tion and Engineering Education. This volume begins with an overview of the history and background of Quality Assurance in higher education and Engineering Education over the last century. The discussion of the historical, philosophical, political, and social background of Quality Assurance sets the stage for the other chapters. Following this broad brush stoke introduction, in the next part of the book, authors describe the general issues and challenges facing Quality Assurance in the twenty-first century from both regional and national perspectives. These authors have extensive experience in the area of Quality Assurance and have observed its growth and develop first hand over many years.
Student feedback has appeared in the forefront of higher education
quality, particularly the issues of effectiveness and the use of
student feedback to affect improvement in higher education teaching
and learning, and other areas of the students tertiary experience.
Despite this, there has been a relative lack of academic literature

Solid state gas sensors have proved to be very promising for monitoring the emission of air pollutant and toxic gases because they are a low cost element. Zinc oxide (ZnO) is II-VI compound semiconductor with a wide direct band gap of 3.37eV and a hexagonal structure. ZnO is often used in photovoltaic, gas sensor application, varistors, surface acoustic wave devices, electric transducers, piezoelectric materials and room temperature ultraviolet lasing.The objectives of this project are to study the structural, electrical and gas sensing properties of undoped ZnO thick films, to study the relationship of doping with structural, electrical and gas sensing properties of doped ZnO films with Cr2O3, Nb2O5, Al and Cu as a dopant.
Research in the area of 'Plant Cell Culture' technology has resulted in the production of many pharmaceutical substances for new therapeutics. Advances in the area of cell culture for the production of medicinal compounds have made possible the production of a wide variety of pharmaceuticals like alkaloids, terpenoids, steroids, saponins, phenolics, flavonoids and amino acids. During the past two decades, a considerable progress has been made to stimulate formation and accumulation of secondary metabolites using plant cell culture. This book, therefore describes new protocols for development of cell culture of medicinal plants and qualitative as well as quantitative estimation of secondary metabolites from culture thereof. It also highlights effect of elicitation treatment on production of secondary metabolites and pharmacological screening of same with various in- vitro and animal models.
