It's never easy being the new kid, just ask Levi Squair. Levi and
her father move out to Washington in search of a new beginning.
Abandoned by her mother, Levi faces the prospect of a new school
without her mother by her side. Her new class is everything she
feared: kids who choose not to see past the color of her skin. When
a spunky and mischievous Cameron Moore enters the classroom, he
immediately strikes up a friendship that remains unbreakable for
years until he disappears without notice. Now as an adult in the
Seattle area, Levi is working at a prominent construction firm.
When given the chance to head a new project, she meets up with none
other than a grown up Cameron. Picking up where they left off so
many years ago, Levi is led down a trail of seduction, submission,
pain and lies. Follow Levi as she unleashes her most hidden
desires, all for the man she loves!
It's 2008, and Sweet Kirkendall's life is unraveling: her father
is in jail for harboring undocumented Mexicans, her husband is away
working, her young son is turning into a bully, she's a full-time
caretaker for an invalid elderly family member, and now Sweet has
to take in her orphaned ten-year-old nephew, Dustin, because his
grandpa has been jailed. A contemporary everywoman, Sweet struggles
to hold her family together under pressures from within and
without. She has little money, no help, and surely no time to truck
with current political issues--until they come roaring into her
life via a new state immigration law, a fractured family, a lost
child, an ambitious legislator, a grandstanding sheriff, a niece in
desperate need of help, and the national news media camped on her
doorstep.
In a novel that tackles hot-button subjects--immigration,
religion, civil rights, small-town politics, and the everyday
struggles of working families--Rilla Askew vividly weaves together
an authentic and compelling narrative with grace and humor.

The food and supplements industries are complex, political, and
fraught with debate. Most people are uncertain and uninformed about
what constitutes the best nutrition and often make decisions that
put their lives at risk. Eat to Save Your Life intends to help you
make the best decisions by providing you with the best
science-based nutritional information available.
What you might not know:
Many life-threatening diseases are on the increase, and new
diseases are emerging that pharmaceuticals alone are not
addressing: cancer, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, depression,
and other common disorders have been linked to nutritional
deficiencies. Yet licensing regulations may prevent or discourage
your physician from advising about nutrition and supplements.
What you can do:
Arm yourself with contemporary knowledge and penetrating
questions as you search for the best food and food supplements for
you and your family. This book will help you do just that.
"Gloria and Jerre have successfully created a handbook that
simplifies the essentials of proper nutrition and supplementation
from the piles of information and misinformation that is out there.
It's a fantastic reference for anyone looking to improve their
health while saving time and money at the health food store."

This is a collection of eight ghost stories, written by the
remarkably prolific husband and wife team of Claude and Alice
Askew, centering on Aylmer Vance, an investigator of the
supernatural. Dexter, the narrator, meets Vance during a fishing
holiday and Vance tells him three ghost stories on successive
nights, each story involving Vance more closely in the action. The
fourth story brings Dexter himself into the action, and reveals him
to have unsuspected clairvoyant powers. The remaining stories
feature Vance and Dexter as a sort of Holmes-and-Watson team
investigating incidents not all of which prove to have supernatural
causes. The final story, "The Fear" is very effective, describing a
house in which a general feeling of extreme fear grips the
inhabitants at various times and locations; the emotion of fear is
effectively evoked and an interesting tale is constructed as Vance
and Dexter work to assign the fear "a local habitation and a name".
After 40 years of Cold War, NATO found itself intervening in
Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo and Afghanistan, where the ability to
communicate with local people was essential to the success of the
missions. This book explains how the Alliance responded to this
challenge so as to ensure that the missions did not fail through
lack of understanding.
