In 2019 the bestseller Generation Next: Architects & Interior
Designers Defining Tomorrow was published by Beta-Plus Publishing.
After four years, its successor, Designer's Next, has been
published, with a carefully curated selection of 21 promising
architects, interior architects and designers. As in the first
edition, this is once again an eminently international group:
individuals and duos from Belgium, the United Kingdom, France, the
Netherlands, the United States, Spain, Australia, Ukraine and
Canada. They each show one or more of their recent private projects
in an extensive report with portrait and biography.
According to New York based interior designer, life coach and
meditation teacher Joshua Smith, “When your home is your
sanctuary, there’s a big exhale when you walk through that front
door. It nourishes your spirit, inspires your mind, and enhances
your connection to yourself, your loved ones and the divine,
however you might define that” (in Homes & Gardens,
January 2023). For Shelby Deering, designer of the tranquil spaces
of The Well (with locations in New York City, Washington, Miami,
Costa Rica and Mexico), "Over the last few years, our homes have
become more important than ever. Throughout the pandemic, we saw
them function as offices, gyms, schools, restaurants — and, of
course, our own little corners of the world where we were able to
find relief from daily pressures and anxiety. Because of this
shift, it’s no wonder that people have made efforts to refresh
their living quarters to focus more on health, wellness and
self-care. After all, when the environment around you feels like a
calming refuge, those peaceful vibes can directly impact how you
feel.” The 15 private residences presented in this beautiful book
can all be called “sanctuaries” because they all
seek to support and protect the well-being of their owners,
families and guests. Everyone needs a happy place, a space
to relax, unwind, and let the worries of everyday life melt away.
Some may dream of white-sand beaches, while others may prefer cozy
mountain chalets, or a meditative, decluttered wabi sabi interior
in a cosmopolitan setting. Whether in Brazil, Sweden, Mexico,
Crete, St. Barts, Spain or in Belgium - all over the world, people
are searching for the ultimate comfort, safety and happiness in
their own cocoon, their own protective environment.
"I was part of Fleur's British Interior Design Exhibition in London
in the 1980s. The strength of Fleur's vision defined the event and
made participation a real pleasure for me." - John Pawson, Renowned
International Minimalist Architect, London The International
Interior Design Exhibition (IIDE) came to Brussels in 2019 with
heritage. First launched in London by Fleur Rossdale as The British
Interior Design Exhibition (BIDE) during the 1980s and '90s, the
event was highly acclaimed as a ground-breaking showcase for the
design industry. With 30,000 international visitors to each, the
exhibition helped propel interior design into the limelight,
receiving worldwide press coverage and an insatiable demographic of
private clients, hoteliers, designers and developers. Organiser
Fleur commented, "Good design has a vital role to play in our
everyday lives. It can improve how we live and function, be it at
home, in the workplace, in education or on holiday. Interiors set a
mood, portraying an identity that should feel enhancing and
harmonious". Fleur, an active interior designer herself, chose
Brussels for the re-launch due to the cultural heritage, not least
as founders of the Art Nouveau movement. Fleur continues,
"Decoration is all about bringing together skilled workmanship,
colour, texture and fine art to create a melodious interior to
enhance our everyday lives". The IIDE followed the ethos of past
experience and showcased ten international designers, presenting
their interior design vision to inspire private and trade visitors.
This luxury coffee table book is a tribute to these new
exhibitions, which is complemented by a short history of all
previous exhibitions in London.
The first monograph of renowned architect and interior designer
Thomas Griem, featuring projects in London (5 projects), Hong Kong
(2), Paris, Mallorca (3) and Ibiza. Thomas opened TG Studio in 2011
and this new book is a testament to the success of the studio's
creativity and approach to architecture and interior design. Thomas
Griem trained in London at the University of Westminster and at the
Architectural Association. He has also made furniture and lights,
and has always been fascinated by the making, designing and
creating of not only buildings or interior spaces, but products.
His work as an architect has been diverse, however he found that
his passion lay in designing timeless beautiful homes. It has
always been exceptionally important for Thomas to genuinely respond
to the particular requirements of the client, the site and
significantly the budget.
