Islam, family planning and the issues pertaining to contraception have always been under debate with different schools of thoughts and in different eras. Religion Islam has been interpreted as one of the major barriers in promoting birth spacing and contraceptives even for improving maternal and child health. Pakistan as a developing country faces this huge challenge of overgrowing population amidst illiteracy and poverty, with almost a stagnant contraceptive prevalence rate. This book presents a compilation of how family planning and contraception is seen, understood, promoted and practised in various Islamic countries. Henceforth, this evidence should guide the readers, researchers, academics and the family planning advocates to follow the guidelines and verdicts of authentic schools of Islam such as from Iran and Egypt and incorporate them in their country specific programmes.

Job satisfaction largely determines the productivity and efficiency of human resource for health. It literally depicts the extent to which professionals like or dislike their jobs. Job satisfaction is said to be linked with the employee's work environment, job responsibilities and powers and time pressure; the determinants which affect employee's organizational commitment and consequently the quality of services. The objective of the study was to determine the level of and factors influencing job satisfaction among public health professionals in the public sector. This was a cross sectional study conducted in Islamabad, Pakistan. Sample size was universal including 73 public health professionals, with postgraduate qualifications and working in government departments of Islamabad. A validated structured questionnaire was used to collect data from April to October 2011. Overall satisfaction rate was 41% only, while 45% were somewhat satisfied and 14% of professionals highly dissatisfied with their jobs. For those who were not satisfied, working environment, job description and time pressure were the major causes.

Health information system in Pakistan is poorly designed and collecting incomplete, inaccurate, untimely and unrelated data, which does not help in decision making for planning and management purposes. Study was a retrospective descriptive based on the data recorded in District HMIS cell and monthly reports of 34 health facilities on priority disease and other related health events and also observes the various steps, components and the application of HMIS in disease reporting. Data was collected through a format of questionnaire and was processed by hand sorting techniques, calculator and statistical program for social sciences (SPSS) version 16. The findings of the result showed that only 34 health facilities out of 72 are reporting and 38 not reporting. In 77% of health facilities had trained personnel in HMIS reporting, hence 62% reports received were found to be accurate. 62% reports were not submitted in time. About 85% reports were analyzed and interpret and 79% of the cases action was taken. Improper maintaining record, lack of interest and cooperation of doctors, inadequate staffing, poor supervision, were the factors affecting reporting.
