Some Wild Things is a fictional fast-moving humorous adult story
based on the premise that there is no such thing as
coincidence-whatever happens in life is ultimately meant to be. It
addresses dramatic events, at times horrific, that take place when
cross sections of people from different walks of life become
entwined in a net of circumstance and chaos beyond their control.
This culminates in a web of intrigue played out against an
expeditious backdrop of romance, violence, incest, and murder. The
protagonists are a sordid, interbred trailer park family that
ruthlessly blazes a trail of cold-blooded havoc across an arid and
hostile mineral-rich desert region that is plagued by incessant
sandstorms and is home to a population of lethal Egyptian cobras.
It is a story of double-dealing mining corruption, where an
opposing mining conglomerate is on a ruthless mission to control
and, if necessary, destroy their opposition. This leads to a
terrifying web of bizarre ongoing pandemonium that involves
assassination, gold bullion heists, and international drug
syndicates under the guise of touring magicians. This lethal,
somewhat humorous family spearheads the high-speed action and
never-ending mayhem throughout the story, concluding with a
double-dealing rip-off by entrepreneurial Somali pirates raising
finance for their cause. Some Wild Things is dramatic, fast, and
funny, with a sprinkling of brutal insanity that endorses once
again the premise that there is no such thing as coincidence. Think
Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, and Two Smoking Barrels and you've got
Some Wild Things.

"These Poor Hands: The Autobiography of a Miner Working in South
Wales", was first published in June 1939. It was an instant
bestseller, and its fame catapulted its author into the front rank
of 'proletarian writers'. B. L. Coombes, an English-born migrant,
had lived in the Vale of Neath since before the First World War,
but only turned to writing in the 1930s as a way of communicating
the plight of the miners and their communities to the wider world.
"These Poor Hands" presents, in a documentary style, the working
life of the miner as well as the author's experiences in the
lock-outs of 1921 and 1926. It demonstrates Coombes' desire to
offer an accurate account of the lives of miners and their
families, and carries a sincere moral charge in its description of
the waste of human potential that is industrial capitalism in
decline. Long out of print, "These Poor Hands" has been recognised
for over sixty years as the classic miner's autobiography.

Since the 1970s British politics has undergone something of a
revolution: the collapse of strong class allegiance to parties; the
recovery of an economy once perceived to be in terminal decline;
the near 20-year rule of the Tories; and the extraordinary
emergence and establishment of the Blaire New Labour Party.
Together with these changes we have also seen: the reshaping of the
civil service; the establishment of devolved assemblies; the reform
of the Lords; the decline of ideology; the apparent crushing of the
Conservative Party; and the ubiquity of media management as a tool
of political persuasion. from A/S to undergraduate. It explains,
analyses and interprets the changing mosaic of political life in
Britain since the 1970s. Each chapter has been revised and updated
for this edition and new chapters have been added on devolution and
the judiciary.

A poignantly written and heartfelt memoir that recounts the
author's hair raising-and occasionally hilarious-experience as a
young Marine artilleryman in Vietnam. Gritty, unvarnished and often
disturbing at times, the book provides a unique window into the
lasting physical and emotional wounds of war. Realistic and highly
readable, the story is not the typical gung-ho narrative of a
combat Marine eager to die for God and country. A somewhat
different and interesting perspective and a must read for veterans,
Marine Corps buffs, students of the 1960's culture as well as those
seeking a better understanding of the influence and relevancy of
America's long and indecisive misadventure in Vietnam.
German politics today surveys the German political system, based
on up--to--date information covering the period since the 1998
Bundestag election and the new coalition government under
Chancellor Schroder. A concise survey of the historical background
to the present-day political system, including the steps that led
to German reunification in 1990, is followed by analysis of the
institutions of political participation (election, parties and
interest groups) and the institutions of government (the
constitution, the legislature, chancellor government and the
federal system). The book concludes by considering the symbiotic
relationship between Germany and Europe, and assesses how apt it is
to consider Germany to be a 'normal' democracy today.
The author draws on German as well as English--language sources
of data, ensuring that recent changes in the political system are
fully explained, and provides coverage of the constitutional as
well as the historical and partisan basis of contemporary German
politics.
Special features include boxes, (which explain topics such as
the 'surplus seats' which have occurred at recent Bundestag
elections), a chronology of events leading to German reunification,
and examples of interest groups officially registered with the
Bundestag.
It will appeal to those studying undergraduate courses on German
politics, and provide a valuable resource for those studying
comparative European political systems.
