Bruce Beresford directs this 1970s musical comedy starring Barry Humphries and Terry Thomas. In the small town of Sludgley, two nightclubs try to outdo each other by booking the best British bands they can get hold of when the local authorities uncover an age-old law that means only one of them can remain open. The film includes performances by Mud, The Rubettes, Kenny and many others.
Libby Parsons (Ashley Judd) is a woman wrongly convicted for murdering her husband (Bruce Greenwood). When she finds out that her husband is alive and well and had staged his 'death' in order to frame her, she vows revenge. Released on early parole, she skips town and goes out in search of him, causing her parole officer (Tommy Lee Jones) to go on her trail.
A wickedly funny account of celebrity, Hollywood and everything in between ...now in paperback. What's it like to be a veteran director up against the machinations of modern-day Hollywood, with its self-absorbed stars, studio executives who think 'Singapore' is a made-up country, destitute producers posing as lords of finance - the mad, the bad and the downright notorious? Award-winning film-maker Bruce Beresford takes us through the highs and lows of the screen trade - from high-powered dinner tables to obscure backlots, from the centres of power to far-flung locations - with a cast of characters that includes Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, Jeffrey Archer, Steven Seagal, and many others. Delightfully literate and sharply observed, this is a highly entertaining insider's account of a rarely glimpsed world.
After stubborn, aging Southern widow, Miss Daisy, crashes her car into the neighbour's fence, her son insists on hiring her a driver. At first, the self-sufficient Miss Daisy is reluctant to accept the services of her chauffeur, Hoke, but his quiet, wise and tolerant nature slowly wins her over. As the years pass the unlikely friends develop a deep mutual respect and admiration, and slowly build a relationship that transcends their differences.
