Introductory Elements of Analysis and Design in Chemical Engineering: Bruce C Gates, Robert L. Powell Introductory Elements of Analysis and Design in Chemical Engineering
Bruce C Gates, Robert L. Powell
R1,870 Discovery Miles 18 700 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Introductory Elements of Analysis and Design in Chemical Engineering introduces readers to how chemical engineers think. It explains the application of analytical methods to phenomena important in chemical engineering and teaches analytical skills in the context of engineering design. A principal goal is to help readers reinforce their understanding of mathematics (especially calculus) and science as they are introduced to engineering thinking. Emphasizes basic principles, methods, and problem solving at an elementary level. Presents concepts in calculus, chemistry, and physics and methods of analysis on the basis of experiment and observation. Connects experimental results to mathematical representations. Provides numerous illustrative examples and builds on them to introduce processing and process flow diagrams and to place chemical engineering in an historical context. Includes problems at the end of each chapter. Aimed at readers beginning their studies in chemical engineering, this textbook offers an approachable introduction to the principles of analysis and design in chemical engineering to help readers learn to think quantitatively and with a foundation of chemical engineering concepts.

Jean-Marie Basset, Bruce C Gates, Jean-Pierre Candy, Agnes Choplin, Michel Leconte, …
R5,629 Discovery Miles 56 290 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Surface organometallic chemistry is a new field bringing together researchers from organometallic, inorganic, and surface chemistry and catalysis. Topics ranging from reaction mechanisms to catalyst preparation are considered from a molecular basis, according to which the "active site" on a catalyst surface has a supra-molecular character. This. the first book on the subject, is the outcome of a NATO Workshop held in Le Rouret. France, in May. 1986. It is our hope that the following chapters and the concluding summary of recommendations for research may help to provide a definition of surface organometallic chemistry. Besides catalysis. the central theme of the Workshop, four main topics are considered: 1) Reactions of organometallics with surfaces of metal oxides, metals. and zeolites; 2) Molecular models of surfaces, metal oxides, and metals; 3) Molecular approaches to the mechanisms of surface reactions; 4) Synthesis and modification of zeolites and related microporous solids. Most surface organometallic chemistry has been carried out on amorphous high-surf ace-area metal oxides such as silica. alumina. magnesia, and titania. The first chapter. contributed by KNOZINGER. gives a short summary of the structure and reactivity of metal oxide surfaces. Most of our understanding of these surfaces is based on acid base and redox chemistry; this chemistry has developed from X-ray and spectroscopic data, and much has been inferred from the structures and reactivities of adsorbed organic probe molecules. There are major opportunities for extending this understanding by use of well-defined (single crystal) oxide surfaces and organometallic probe molecules."

Werner O. Haag, Bruce C Gates, Helmut Knoezinger
R6,039 Discovery Miles 60 390 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Since 1948, this series has filled the gap between the papers that report on and the textbooks that teach in the diverse areas of catalysis research. The editors of and contributors to Advances in Catalysis are dedicated to recording progress in this area. Each volume of Advances in Catalysis contains articles covering a subject of broad interest.
Advances in Catalysis 44 reflects the expanding impact of experimental surface characterization on the understanding of catalysis. The catalysts emphasized here are representative of the complexity of today's technology; examples include catalysts for hydrocarbon re-forming, automobile exhaust conversion, and hydroprocessing to make clean-burning fossil fuels.
This volume contains three obituaries recognizing the major contributions of Dr. Werner O. Hagg, Dr. Charles Kemball, and Dr. John Turkevich.
