In the last decade we have seen the emergence of a new
inter-disciplinary field concentrating on the understanding large
networks which are dynamic, large, open, and have a structure that
borders order and randomness. The field of Complex Networks has
helped us better understand many complex phenomena such as spread
of decease, protein interaction, social relationships, to name but
a few.
The field of Complex Networks has received a major boost caused
by the widespread availability of huge network data resources in
the last years. One of the most surprising findings is that real
networks behave very distinct from traditional assumptions of
network theory. Traditionally, real networks were supposed to have
a majority of nodes of about the same number of connections around
an average. This is typically modeled by random graphs. But modern
network research could show that the majority of nodes of real
networks is very low connected, and, by contrast, there exists some
nodes of very extreme connectivity (hubs).
The current theories coupled with the availability of data makes
the field of Complex Networks (sometimes called Network Sciences)
one of the most promising interdisciplinary disciplines of today.
This sample of works in this book gives as a taste of what is in
the horizon such controlling the dynamics of a network and in the
network, using social interactions to improve urban planning,
ranking in music, and the understanding knowledge transfer in
influence networks."
Discover a method that lets you get the look of multiple midrow
colour changes without all the hassle. This technique uses chain
spaces to form a lattice to work over. Colours are worked the
entire row and colour changes are only done at the ends of rows.
You will find 20 different granny square patterns, all the same
size, plus instructions to join them together, as well as a simple
but unique border. For most squares the yarn is carried up the side
and worked over when stitching the border.
Here, Frederick Luis Aldama and Christopher Gonzalez offer a
thought-provoking conversation on the history of Latinos in the pro
football leagues. As they weave their way through significant
points where culture, politics, and history congeal (an early
twentieth century era of Brown Color Lines, the Great Depression,
WWII, birth of television, Civil Rights struggles, the twenty-first
century Latino demographic explosion, among others), Aldama and
Gonzalez thread together an alpha-to-omega, all-encompassing story
of Latinos in the NFL. They push hard at issues such as racial
prejudice, including why Latinos have historically had to cross
into the Canadian Leagues to prove themselves to white American
officiators and the glaring omission of prominent Latino names
honored within the hallowed interiors of the Pro Football Hall of
Fame. Encyclopedic in scope and powerfully pointed in its analysis,
they put the spotlight on the significant contribution made by
Latinos in the history of pro football.
Trade Unions and Regions: Better Work, Experimentation, and
Regional Governance is about the place of workers and their unions
in the modern world. It addresses current challenges for unions
working in regions and the experiments that may take place at this
level of governance. The book addresses pressing questions
concerned with the conditions for better work and a humane society.
The focus is on the capacities of unions to address questions
relating to regional governance, in both supranational and
sub-national regions. It examines workers and their unions in a
variety of contexts: multinationals, industries, workplaces, and
communities. The authors address the experiments that can be
initiated by unions, governments, or employers and the ways in
which collective organisations engage to address these matters in
regional contexts. The analysis takes as a starting point the
fracturing and divisions evident in various regions, in Australia,
Canada, Mexico, Spain, the United Kingdom, and USA. The
contributors propose novel analyses with lessons for unions. It
should be of interest to union activists and leaders, political
parties, governments, and those who make decisions in and about
regions. Researchers and students of labour markets, political
mobilisation, and employment relations will take the analyses
further.
Phronesis and Quiddity in Management addresses the issue of the
excellence in judgment-making, its concept and characterisation.
This book investigates first into what constitutes excellent
managerial skills centred on leadership revolving around
judgement-making (rather than decision-making) and second into
whether they can be taught.

This book includes instructions for 6 projects using twelve stitch
patterns created with short, simple repeats using basic stitches
that create textures that look more intricate than they are. Refer
to the Project Box for each stitch where calculations are already
done for you! The book also features a Did You Know section for
information to improve your technique plus up-close colour photos
throughout to make it easy to stay on track and turn simple
stitches into beautiful textures.
Over the past 100 years, Congress has sought to prohibit acts of
sexual abuse of minors and punish those who harm the nation's
children. These efforts began in the early 20th century when
Congress prohibited the transportation of a minor in interstate
commerce for the purpose of sexual exploitation, and continue to
more modern measures such as outlawing the use of the Internet to
lure children for sexual purposes. Nevertheless, Congress's power
in this area does have constitutional limits. This book discusses
the punishments and effects of failing to register as a sex
offender; the Child Protection Act of 2012; and federal criminal
offences.
Welcome to Waterfall crochet, a method that introduces a way to get
the look of multiple mid-row colour changes without all the hassle.
No more carrying the dropped colour across the row, and no more
mid-row colour changes. This new technique uses chain spaces to
form a lattice to work over. Colours are worked the entire row and
colour changes are only done at the end of rows. For most projects,
yarn is carried up the side and worked over when making the border.
For courses in Image Processing and Computer Vision.
Completely self-containedâ and heavily illustratedâ this
introduction to basic concepts and methodologies for digital image
processing is written at a level that truly is suitable for
seniors and first-year graduate students in almost any technical
discipline. The leading textbook in its field for more than twenty
years, it continues its cutting-edge focus on contemporary
developments in all mainstream areas of image processingâ
e.g., image fundamentals, image enhancement in the spatial and
frequency domains, restoration, color image processing, wavelets,
image compression, morphology, segmentation, image description, and
the fundamentals of object recognition. It focuses on material that
is fundamental and has a broad scope of application.
