With the recent completion of the sequencing of the human genome,
it is widely anticipated that the number of potential new protein
drugs and targets will escalate at an even greater rate than that
observed in recent years. However, identification of a potential
target is only part of the process in developing these new next
generation protein-based "drugs" that are increasingly being used
to treat human disease. Once a potential protein drug has been
identified, the next rate-limiting step on the road to development
is the production of sufficient authentic material for testing,
charact- ization, clinical trials, and so on. If a protein drug
does actually make it through this lengthy and costly process,
methodology that allows the production of the protein on a scale
large enough to meet demand must be implemented. Furthermore,
large-scale production must not compromise the authenticity of the
final product. It is also nec- sary to have robust methods for the
purification, characterization, viral inactivation and continued
testing of the authenticity of the final protein product and to be
able to formulate it in a manner that retains both its biological
activity and lends itself to easy administration. Therapeutic
Proteins: Methods and Protocols covers all aspects of protein drug
production downstream of the discovery stage. This volume contains
contributions from leaders in the field of therapeutic protein
expression, purification, characterization, f- mulation, and viral
inactivation.
Blow by blow accounts of one young man's two Iditarod Trail Sled
Dog Race runs. Takes the reader down the trail through the author's
eyes, ears, legs, and hands. Primary focus tries to stay on the
incredible Alaskan Husky sled dogs who pull the author across the
wild breadth of Alaska. As handler for his uncle, four time
Iditarod champion Martin Buser, Chapoton goes from rookie to
Iditarod finisher, then does it again the following year. Dog
lovers and adventure fans will enjoy this fast paced easy read.
Rarely do theological thinkers have the opportunity to present
their own self-understanding of both their context and their
methodology and the inter-relation of the two. This book gives
leading theological minds from North America, Great Britain and
Europe an opportunity to explore the shaping of their theological
minds in regard to context and methodology. Asking 'why theology',
each contributor explores their sense of call to the Christian
faith, the purpose of their theological journey, and reflects on
his or her context and theology. Cutting across denominational,
gender, disciplinary, international and generational boundaries to
explore shifts in theology and methodology, this book provides a
diagnostic tool for examining where theology has come from and a
compass to where theology is headed. Contributors include: James H
Cone, Edward Farley, Colin E Gunton, Alister E McGrath, Wayne A
Meeks, John Milbank, JA1/4rgen Moltmann, Gerald O'Collins, Rosemary
Radford Ruether, Kathryn Tanner, Keith Ward and John Webster.
Theological thinkers are placed into contexts which inform their
theological tasks but that context is usually limited to a European
or North American centre, usually ignoring minorities and lesser
mainstream theologies even in that context. This work focuses on
the shift of Christian theological thinking from the North Atlantic
to the Global South, even within the North Atlantic Church and
Academy. It gives a Global perspective on theological work, method
and context. Theologians from North America, Great Britain and
Europe, Africa, Asia, Central and South America comment on how
their specific context and methodology manifests, organizes and is
prioritized in their thought so as to make Christian theology
relevant to their community. By placing the Global South alongside
the newly emerging presence of non-traditional Western forms such
as Pentecostal, Aboriginal, and Hispanic theologies and theologians
a clearer picture of how Christian theology is both enculturated
and still familial is offered..

Silicon carbide (SiC) is a robust semiconductor material being
actively developed for high-power and high-temperature
applications, especially in the field of power electronics and
sensors for harsh environments. This book, the fifth in a
continuing series, focuses on SiC growth, defects, and devices. New
developments in the growth of bulk SiC single-crystal materials,
advances in the epitaxial growth of SiC, and progress in the
characterization of materials properties and defects in SiC are
featured. The volume also highlights the development of devices
manufactured on this wide-bandgap semiconductor including:
innovative device designs; characterization of device and materials
properties; and improvements in wide-bandgap processing technology.
This book is the first comprehensive study of Mormon architecture.
It centers on the doctrine of Zion which led to over 500 planned
settlements in Missouri, Illinois, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado,
New Mexico, Arizona, California, Nevada, Canada, and Mexico. This
doctrine also led to a hierarchy of building types from temples and
tabernacles to meetinghouses and tithing offices. Their built
environment stands as a monument to a unique utopian society that
not only survived but continues to flourish where others have
become historical or cultural curiosities. Hamilton's account,
augmented by 135 original and historical photographs, provides a
fascinating example of how religious teachings and practices are
expressed in planned communities and architecture types.

This book is designed to help passengers better understand what the
Lewis and Clark expedition experienced during those momentous years
of 1804-1806, but also to be able to see through vintage
photographs and other images what the members of the Corps of
Discovery saw before the rivers were changed forever by
hydroelectric dams. It affords an opportunity to travel "in the
wake of Lewis and Clark." Leaving St. Louis on May 14, 1804, with
thirty-four soldiers, hired voyagers, and Clark's slave, York, they
traveled through the unexplored territory and beyond it, to the
Pacific Ocean. Their exploits come alive today as cruise ships
travel their route up and down the Snake and Columbia Rivers.
This book, which comes with a Money Back Guarantee, was written
from the author's own spiritual journey. So many of us - both
church goers and non-church goers - have struggled with how to get
our prayers answered. Why do we experience such pain and suffering
in spite of our prayer life? "For many of us, the experience of
spending time with God is like spending time with an old spouse or
lover. The flame of passion is not there, but the sense of
responsibility is. We meet our obligatory Sunday responsibilities
and daily prayer rituals - not with passion and purpose - but with
dread and impotence. It is no wonder, then, that we are so easily
distracted and seldom reach that secret place where peace awaits
us." In this book we will explore the appropriate prayer attitude,
posture, language, and expectation. When we have the proper
understanding going in, then we get the proper result coming out.
It's really that simple.
Some names are best forgotten ... The Nameless Dwarf follows the
trail of the last of his race to the mountains bordering Qlippoth,
a wasteland born from the dreams of a craven god. But the survival
of the dwarves depends on his willingness to confront the bloody
deeds of his past, and the ruler of the brigand town of Malfen, who
guards the pass into Qlippoth-an aberration known as the Ant-Man.
The Chronicles of the Nameless Dwarf are a blend of Sword and
Sorcery and contemporary fantasy, combining strange worlds, dark
magic, heroic action and an astonishing depth of world building.
The Ant-Man of Malfen reintroduces the Nameless Dwarf from the
acclaimed SHADER series by D.P. Prior. Nameless is a
manic-depressive pariah whose past is littered with atrocities.
Possessing an almost elemental ferocity and a gift for violence,
Nameless alternates between bouts of crippling depression and
boisterous episodes of elation, which are usually brought on by the
prospect of a good fight; and he has an eye for the women -
particularly those under four feet tall. This story also introduces
Silas Thrall, a student of the mantic arts with a dark secret that
consumes more each day; and Nils Fargin, son of the most feared
guildmaster in New Jerusalem.
