Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.

German zoologist Albrecht Carl Ludwig Gotthilf Gnther (1830 -1914)
began his association with the British Museum, London, in 1857 when
he was charged with completing the museum's catalogues of amphibia,
reptiles, and fish. In 1875 he became director of the zoology
department of the Natural History Museum. "Reptiles of British
India" is one of his main works.
The nature of life is at the center of national debate. Are we mere
material mechanisms? Or is life a vast nonphysical dimension that
organizes matter? Does God exist? The issue is not academic. The
question defines the nature of human reality. What are the limits
of consciousness? Do our memories exist in our brains or in the
vastness of time? "The Vital Dimension" examines the thoughts of
eminent scientists such as the Nobel Prize Winners Erwin
Schrodinger, Werner Heisenberg and Sir John Eccles who concluded
that life is a mysterious force unknown to modern science. "The
Vital Dimension" embraces Rene Descartes' admonition, "Doubt all
that can be doubted " to look beyond the rigid preconceptions of
mechanistic biology and construct a truly radical theory of life.
More than mere speculation, the weight of scientific evidence
points to the fact that the modern, material view of reality is on
the verge of a profound revolution. The world stands at the
threshold to the Vital Dimension. Dare we open the door?
