German zoologist Albrecht Carl Ludwig Gotthilf Gnther (1830 -1914)
began his association with the British Museum, London, in 1857 when
he was charged with completing the museum's catalogues of amphibia,
reptiles, and fish. In 1875 he became director of the zoology
department of the Natural History Museum. "Reptiles of British
India" is one of his main works.
