This volume includes contributions presented at the Fifth IFToMM Symposium on the History of Machines and Mechanisms, held at Universidad Autonoma de Queretaro, Santiago de Queretaro, QRO, Mexico, in June 2016. It contains work on theories and facts concerning mechanisms and machines from antiquity to current times as viewed in the present day. Topics include modern reviews of past works; people, history, and their works; direct memories of the recent past; historic development theories; the history of the design of machines and mechanisms; developments of mechanical design and automation; the historic development of teaching; the history of schools of engineering and the education of engineers.
The main objective of this book is to identify the key sources of growth which have played a significant role in Africa's recent robust growth as well as its efforts towards economic transformation. The book assesses to what extent the existing macroeconomic frameworks among African countries have been streamlined to the countries' development priorities in order to achieve long-term growth and economic transformation. Taking into account the diversity of African countries, the authors establish the economic linkages between relevant macroeconomic policy variables and the key sources of growth and development among the selected African economies, based on both theoretical and empirical underpinnings. Following this, an outline of a macroeconomic framework for Africa's long-term growth and economic transformation is suggested.

El distanciamiento es total porque, pese a su actividad exitosa, como medico y espia en favor de los EE., UU., el Dr. Abram, infiel, mujeriego, es emocionalmente infeliz, torturado por culpas y prejuicios, que se proyectan contra su esposa e hijo, su hermano y mas antigua parentela. Lopez Dzur contrapone la vision sionista-territorialista, pro-dominialista del agente anticastrista, y la que sustenta Sara, que es mucho mas espiritual, pero equilibrada por una conciencia social desarrollada y de izquierda. Por razones fuera de su control, ella decide salir de Cuba, con su hijo, sin pretender complicidad con actividades contrarrevolucionarias.

Organ transplantation has been the most important therapeutic advance in the last third of the 20th century. Its development has revolutionized medicine, as demonstrated by the fact that a large number of researchers in this field have been awarded Nobel Prizes. In the beginning of this century, we are witnessing with great expectations the emergence of a new field of medicine related to the arrival of a new player on the scene: "stem cells" and their potential use in regenerative medicine. This volume aims to cover important aspects of the various facets of organ transplantation and regenerative medicine, with leading specialists in these fields setting out their vision. We try to rigorously explain current and novel scientific research in these fields-areas which arouse great interest from society in general, due to their potential use in modern medicine for the treatment of a great number of diseases.
In 1960 Sir Frank Macfarlane Burnet received the Noble Prize in Physiology and Medicine. He titled his Nobel Lecture "Immunological Recognition of Self" emphasizing the central argument of immunological tolerance in "How does the vertebrate organism recognize self from nonself in this the immunological sense-and how did the capacity evolve." The concept of self is linked to the concept of biological self identity. All organisms, from bacteria to higher animals, possess recognition systems to defend themselves from nonself. Even in the context of the limited number of metazoan phyla that have been studied in detail, we can now describe many of the alternative mechanism of immune recognition that have emerged at varying points in phylogeny. Two different arms-the innate and adaptive immune system-have emerged at different moments in evolution, and they are conceptually different. The ultimate goals of immune biology include reconstructing the molecular networks underlying immune processes. |
