The biological activity of mycotoxins ranges from weak and/or sometimes positive effects, such as antibacterial activity (see penicillin derivatives derived from Penicillium strains) to strong mutagenic (e. g. aflatoxins, patulin), carcinogenic (e. g. aflatoxins), teratogenic, neurotoxic (e. g. ochratoxins), nephrotoxic (e. g. fumonisins, citrinin), hepatotoxic, and immunotoxic (e. g. ochratoxins, diketopiperazines) activity. Nowadays, many laboratories around the world are specialized in the detection of mycotoxins in food products and contaminated material found in housing. In this volume, a focus on the most important classes of mycotoxins is provided and their chemistry of the last ten years is discussed. In each Section, the individual biological impact is outlined. Sections are arranged according to mycotoxin classes (e. g. aflatoxins) and/or structural classes (e. g. resorcinyl lactones, diketopiperazines). The biology of mycotoxins is also described.

This symposium continued the series of conferences on the dense interstellar medium which has been organized every 5 years since 1988 by the I. Physikal- ches Institut der Universit] at ] zu Koln ] in the context of the Sonderforschun- bereich 494 "The Evolution of Interstellar Matter: THz-Spectroscopy in the Laboratory and in Space," the symposium is now organized jointly by these three institutes. The conference covered a wide range of topics: starting at the largest scales and earliest times in the history of the Universe, it focussed next on galaxy evolution and their structure and dynamics. New and very exciting results on the black hole in the center of the Milky Way and the violent ISM in its immediate vicinity were presented. It continued on the cosmic cycle of star formation and evolution, and reached down to the microphysical p- cesses determining the physical and chemical conditions of the interstellar matter as the important agent for this cosmic cycle."

Die modernen Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien bieten die Moglichkeit, raumlich verstreute Kompetenzen und Human Resources zusammenzufassen virtuelle Teams werden implementiert. Im Gegensatz zu konventionellen Teams agieren diese virtuellen Teams uber Raum-, Zeit- und auch Organisationsgrenzen hinweg. Teamarbeit in verteilten Strukturen findet dabei in der Regel projektorientiert statt. Damit lassen sich Ansatze des klassischen Projektmanagements auf diese neue Form der Kooperation ubertragen. Da die Kommunikation und Kooperation im virtuellen Team nicht mehr, wie gewohnt Face-to-Face stattfindet, sondern uber Kommunikationsmedien erfolgt, verlangt diese Arbeitsform auch ganz neue Kompetenzen auf Seiten der Teammitglieder und vor allem auch auf Seiten der Teamleiter. Diese neuen Kompetenzen beinhalten sowohl die technik-orientierten Hardskills zur Nutzung und Bedienung der Medien als auch gerade die entsprechenden Softskills der medienvermittelten sozialen Fuhrung, wie z.B.: Forderung der Motivation der Mitglieder und Forderung ihrer Beteiligung am Teamarbeitsprozess uber Distanz. Aufbau und Erhalt einer Vertrauensbasis ohne direkten personlichen Kontakt. Wissen um die Auswirkungen unterschiedlicher Arten medien-vermittelter Kommunikation auf die zwischenmenschliche Wahrnehmung. Vermeidung typischer Kommunikationsprobleme durch gemeinsame Normen.
