It's the summer of 1987 in the dying New England mill town of Swift
River, and sixteen year-old Diamond Newberry is learning how to
drive. Since her father disappeared seven years ago, she and her
mother hitchhike everywhere they go; they're the only people in
town without a car. But that's not the only reason Diamond stands
out: She weighs 298 pounds, and since Pop's been gone, she is the
only person of colour in all of Swift River. This summer, Ma is
determined to declare Pop legally dead so that they can collect his
life insurance money, get their house back from the bank and move
on with their lives. When Diamond receives a letter from a relative
she's never met, key elements of her father's past are uncovered,
and she is introduced to two generations of African American
Newberry women, spanning the twentieth century and revealing a much
larger picture of prejudice and love, of devotion and abandonment.
As more letters come, they fill in the pieces of her history she
never knew she was missing, giving her a sense of her place in the
world and her family. But what will she do with what she's learned,
and will it mean having to leave Ma?
This timely Handbook provides a comprehensive and transdisciplinary
overview of current research in the field of health leadership.
Emphasising diverse perspectives and under-explored issues, it
calls for a sustainable future embracing social justice,
technological innovation and artificial intelligence,
patient-centredness of care, and the fair treatment of workers.
With contributions from over 90 experts in the field, this Handbook
includes a wide range of key debates in healthcare leadership,
focusing specifically on including voices from the Global South.
Chapters explore the historical development of leadership theories
and practices in healthcare, and identify cutting-edge initiatives
which will shape the future of the discipline. International case
studies examine critical issues including the handling of the
Covid-19 pandemic, leadership of healthcare charities, and changes
in the leadership contribution of healthcare professions in the
21st century. Addressing the challenging question of persistent
variation in healthcare leadership quality, this Handbook
scrutinises the impact of leadership at every level on an
organisation’s culture. This Handbook will be an invaluable
resource for scholars and students in health policy and management,
business leadership, and the sociology of work. It will also be
beneficial for healthcare practitioners and policy makers looking
to deepen their understanding of effective management in the field.
The King in Yellow is a book of short stories by American writer
Robert W. Chambers, first published in 1895. The book is named
after a play with the same title which recurs as a motif through
some of the stories. The first half of the book features highly
esteemed weird stories, and the book has been described by critics
as a classic in the field of the supernatural. There are ten
stories, the first four of which ("The Repairer of Reputations",
"The Mask", "In the Court of the Dragon", and "The Yellow Sign")
mention The King in Yellow, a forbidden play which induces despair
or madness in those who read it. "The Yellow Sign" inspired a film
of the same name released in 2001.
Elgar Research Agendas outline the future of research in a given
area. Leading scholars are given the space to explore their subject
in provocative ways, and map out the potential directions of
travel. They are relevant but also visionary. Forward-looking and
innovative, Elgar Research Agendas are an essential resource for
PhD students, scholars and anybody who wants to be at the forefront
of research. Original and thought-provoking, this Research Agenda
investigates the many ways in which tourism is gendered. It
outlines current thought and directions for future research,
looking forward by imagining and challenging the ways that gender
will continue to intersect with and impact on tourism, as well as
looking back to trace the key developments and contributions in
gendered thinking. Chapters consider and rethink gender in the
context of tourism from multiple vantage points, contexts and
perspectives. Divided into three parts, the Research Agenda
reflects key threads in a contemporary research agenda: gender
theory, analysis and review; gender, tourism and work; and gendered
tourism experiences. Bringing together a range of diverse and
inclusive contributions, it moves beyond binary assumptions of
‘women’ and ‘men’ towards the intersectionalities among
gender, race, class, sexuality and power in relation to tourism.
Highlighting emerging research in the field, along with the methods
and paradigms that are at the forefront of gendered tourism
research, this Research Agenda will be an invigorating read for
critical tourism researchers as well as gender researchers and
those in the social sciences more broadly.

Double bill featuring two spoof comedies. 'Epic Movie' (2007) tells
the tale of four fully grown orphans: one the victim of snakes that
attacked her plane, another raised by a kindly Louvre curator, the
third a Mexican 'libre' wrestling refuge, and the last an average
mutant from an 'X'-community. When the curious quartet visits a
sprawling chocolate factory, they stumble across a magical wardrobe
which transports them to the enchanted land of Gnarnia. It seems
that the wondrous fantasy land has recently fallen under the spell
of the evil White Bitch (Jennifer Coolidge), and in order to bring
peace back to Gnarnia these four bumbling mortals will have to join
forces with a charismatic pirate, a painfully sincere group of
aspiring wizards, and one particularly libidinous lion. 'Date
Movie' (2006) stars Alyson Hannigan as a hopeless romantic who has
finally met the man of her dreams Grant Funkyerdoder. But before
they can have their 'Big Fat Greek Wedding', they'll have to 'Meet
the Parents', hook up with 'The Wedding Planner' and contend with
Grant's girlfriend, Andy, a spectacularly beautiful woman who wants
to put a stop to her 'Best Friend's Wedding'.
