Different physical and chemical approaches are described to show the potentials and limits of the models used for simulation.

The numerical simulation of combustion processes in internal combustion engines, including also the formation of pollutants, has become increasingly important in the recent years, and today the simulation of those processes has already become an indispensable tool when - veloping new combustion concepts. While pure thermodynamic models are well-established tools that are in use for the simulation of the transient behavior of complex systems for a long time, the phenomenological models have become more important in the recent years and have also been implemented in these simulation programs. In contrast to this, the thr- dimensional simulation of in-cylinder combustion, i. e. the detailed, integrated and continuous simulation of the process chain injection, mixture formation, ignition, heat release due to combustion and formation of pollutants, has been significantly improved, but there is still a number of challenging problems to solve, regarding for example the exact description of s- processes like the structure of turbulence during combustion as well as the appropriate choice of the numerical grid. While chapter 2 includes a short introduction of functionality and operating modes of internal combustion engines, the basics of kinetic reactions are presented in chapter 3. In chapter 4 the physical and chemical processes taking place in the combustion chamber are described. Ch- ter 5 is about phenomenological multi-zone models, and in chapter 6 the formation of poll- ants is described.

Die Studenteninitiative "Marketing zwischen Theorie und Praxis e. V. MTP" hat es sich zum Ziel gesetzt, Theorie und Praxis des Marketing einander niiher zu bringen. Unter dem Motto "Praxis im HOrsaal" organisieren mittlerweile uber 400 Studenten an zehn bundesdeutschen Universitaten Vortrage, Seminare und Projekte zu ausge- wahlten Marketingthemen. Auch als studentische "Marketingorganisation" gilt es, seinen Anspruch stets an den Bedurfnissen seiner Marktpartner, insbesondere an denen seiner Mitglieder zu mes- sen. So entstanden im Laufe der vergangenen Jahre, seit der Grundung des MTP .e. V. 1981 in Saarbrllcken, weiterentwickelte Veranstaltungsformen und Servi- cekonzepte, die neben den bestehenden Aktivitaten etabliert wurden. Es erscheint mittlerweile jahrlich ein "MTP-Arbeitsbericht", der die bundesweiten Aktivitaten des Vereins dokumentiert, es werden Streitgesprache und Diskussionsa- bende zwischen Professoren und Praktikern organisiert oder, wie 1986 mit dem "Marketing Mirror" der Versuch eines unkonventionellen Informationsdienstes nicht nur fur Marketing-Praktiker gestartet. Auf groBe Ressonanz stieBen hierbei insbesondere die yom MTP durchgefUhrten Befragungen unter Marketing-Professo- ren und -Praktikern, deren Ergebnisse in der Zeitschrift "absatzwirtschaft" in den Jahren 1985/86 verOffentlicht wurden. Von daher schien es nur konsequent, daB sich die Studenteninitiative MTP fruher oder spater auch dem Medium Buch annehmen wurde, um die Ergebnisse umfang- reicher Studien einem breiteren Kreis von Interessenten zuganglich zu machen. So ist beispielsweise die VerOffentlichung eines MTP-StudienfUhrers fUr Marketing-Stu- denten geplant.
