This book explores the processes through which European solidarity is constructed. More specifically, it investigates how the media's framing of European identity can facilitate and/or impede the emergence of European solidarity on the individual level. Through an online experiment that tested the effect of two different media identity frames on individual solidarity during the European debt crisis, the author argues that the exposure to news articles using a value-based identity frame boosts solidarity compared to an economic identity frame. This interdisciplinary work will be of interest to scholars of political sociology, political communication and political psychology, as well as any researchers who study European integration.

Bei Neuronalen Netzen handelt es sich um ein neuartiges Verfahren, das sich - stark vereinfacht - an der Arbeitsweise des biologischen Gehirns orientiert. Der Autor entwickelt in dieser Arbeit nachvollziehbar mehrere Neuronale Netze, die anhand realer technischer und fundamentaler Daten aus dem Zeitraum 1991 bis 1998 eine tagliche 3-Klassen-Prognose (steigt/konstant/fallt) des DEM/USD-Wechselkurses erlauben. Zunachst wird ein kurzer Uberblick uber die volkswirtschaftlichen Grundlagen der Wechselkurse gegeben; anschliessend wird relativ knapp die technische Analyse unter besonderer Berucksichtigung mathematisch-statistischer Indikatoren dargestellt. Weiterhin werden die Grundlagen der in dieser Arbeit verwendeten Neuronalen Netze systematisch erlautert, so dass der auf diesem Gebiet nicht bewanderte Leser fur das Verstandnis keine Sekundarliteratur benotigt. Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt liegt hierbei auf der Darstellung verschiedener Lernverfahren. Die Behandlung anhand des in dieser Arbeit entwickelten konkreten Beispiels erleichtert das Verstandnis der komplexen Materie. Abschliessend werden ein Uberblick uber die Prognosegute Neuronaler Netze zur Wechselkursprognose in der Literatur gegeben und die Simulationsergebnisse dieser Arbeit vor- gestellt. Die empirischen Daten, die Grundlage der Simulation waren, finden sich in einem grossen Appendix. Das beste in dieser Arbeit erzielte Prognoseergebnis ist eine Trefferquote von 51,33% (bei einer zufalligen Trefferwahrscheinlichkeit von 33,33%). Der Autor ist zuversichtlich, dass sich dieses gute Ergebnis noch weiter verbessern liesse und liefert hierzu bereits erste Anhaltspunkte in einer abschliessenden Beurteilung. Inhalts
