24 works reveal Debussy's genius: "La Cathedrale engloutie," "Ondine," "La fille aux cheveux de lin," "Feuilles mortes," "Ce qu'a vu le Vent d'Ouest," many more. Glossary of French terms.
Like his predecessor Chopin, Debussy discovered new possibilities
and refinements in the art of playing and composing for the piano.
His compositions and transcriptions for piano four hands are among
his most inventive and interesting works. This volume contains
"Marche Ecossaise, " written specifically for piano four hands, and
the composer's transcription for four hands of "La""Mer.""
"These works display both the brilliant pianism at the heart of
Debussy's musical imagery and the composer's affinity for the
unexpected -- a quality that allowed many of his compositions to
unfold like highly sophisticated improvisations. Reprinted here
from authoritative French editions, they will challenge and delight
pianists with their unique qualities.
Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the
1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly
expensive. We are republishing these classic works in affordable,
high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork.
(Piano Collection). Contains nearly every piece of piano music
Debussy wrote in this giant, 488-page, comb-bound book. Includes:
Children's Corner, Deux arabesques, complete Etudes, Pour le piano,
complete Preludes, Suite bergamasque, plus 27 other pieces.

In this guide to Pelleas and Melisande, Maeterlinck's original play
is reprinted in full, so that the opera lover can read the scenes
that Debussy did not set to music. Hugh Macdonald's much praised
English translation is published here for the first time, with an
essay uncovering the musical roots of Pelleas and Melisande and
illustrating its importance to the music of the twentieth century.
Alain Raitt, author of several studies of symbolist writers,
evaluates Maeterlinck's status as a dramatist, and Roger Nichols
analyses the score. Proust's short pastiche of the opera and Arthur
Symons's review of the first English performances challenge us to
come to terms with this eternally intriguing masterpiece. Contents:
Something Borrowed, Something New, Hugh Macdonald; A Musical
Synopsis, Roger Nichols; Maeterlinck and the Theatre, Alan Raitt;
Profound or Pretentious?, Nicholas John; Pelleas et Melisande: text
by Maurice Maeterlinck; Pelleas and Melisande: English Translation
by Hugh Macdonald
A boxed collection featuring historical performances by three of
the Boston Symphony Orchestra's eminent music directors, Charles
Munch, Erich Leinsdorf and William Steinberg. Stretching from 1958
to 1970, the recordings feature works by amongst others Debussy,
Ravel, Mozart, Schubert, Tchaikovsky and Haydn.
Debussy's sole completed opera was given its premiere at Paris'
Opera Comique on April 30, 1902. It was the culmination of an
eight-year effort on the composer's part. Though not an immediate
sensation like Puccini's "Madame Butterfly" two years later in
Milan, the five-act lyric drama, after the identically titled play
by Maeterlinck, enjoyed a successful run in the first two decades
of the 20th century. This new vocal score is a digitally-enhanced
reprint of the one issued in Paris by A. Durand et Fils in 1907,
with an English translation of the text by Harry Grafton Chapman
appearing beneath the original French. Now available in a
convenient, readable A4 format at an affordable price.
(Piano Collection). Many of Debussy's best-known pieces are
assembled in this convenient, affordable collection. Includes:
Children's Corner * Deux arabesques * Estampes * Hommage a Haydn *
Images * L'isle joyeuse * Masques * Le petit negre * La plus que
lente * Preludes, Books 1 and 2 (selections) * Reverie, Suite
bergamasque (including "Clair de lune") * Suite: Pour le piano.
