Animated prequel featuring the voice of Steve Carell. Young Gru (Carell) is a fan of supervillain supergroup the Vicious 6 and so he hatches a plan to become evil enough to join them. Together with his loyal Minions, he builds his first lair and experiments with weapons.

However, when he interviews to join the Vicious 6, it goes badly, and things soon get even worse when he outsmarts them and becomes their mortal enemy.
