The book is designed as a comprehensive introduction to bilingual
education for instructors, researchers and students and a companion
to "Foundations of Bilingual Educationa nd Bilingualism". It will
fulfil the needs of teacher education and the preparation and
professional development of bilingual teachers. Bilingual education
at classroom, school and community levels are explored from a
contemporary and international perspective. The readings are
divided into four sections: Section 1: Varieties of Bilingual
Education Section 2: History, Policy and Politics of Bilingual
Education Section 3: Languages and Literacies in Bilingual
Education Section 4: Issues in Teaching, Learning and Assessment in
Bilingual Education Following each of the nineteen readings, there
are questions and activities to create an interactive text for
instructors and students. Such questions and activities will engage
the reader in reflection, deepening understandings and critical
appreciation of bilingual education policies, politics and
practices.
The book aims to establish the concept of attitudes as more central
to the study of minority and majority languages. The strong
tradition of attitude theory and research from social psychology is
made relevant to language restoration and decay. Original research
shows how attitude to bilingualism is conceptually distinct from
attitude to a specific language. A piece of research in Wales
investigates the origins of language attitudes in individual
differences and in environmental attributes.
Wales is a small nation with a long and varied tradition of
bilingualism. The minority language and culture is under threat.
The book seeks to take the temperature of the Welsh language.
Building on a computer analysis of the 1981 Welsh language Census
data, the book provides evidence of a language moving slowly
towards extinction. The aim of each chapter is to examine an issue
which is of significance in most minority language situations, but
is exemplified and encapsulated in the Welsh context. The effect of
television and other mass media, the potential and threat of the
microelectronic revolution, the existence and erosion of heartlands
are issues which are part of the nervous tension of contemporary
Wales and many other minority language regions. The role of
bilingual education is a central issue of the book. A bilingual
education model is described as a basis for analysing some of the
problems and issues of Welsh and worldwide bilingual education.
Another chapter analyses different approaches to curriculum
development in minority language contexts and argues for a dual
approach combining central initiatives and teacher based action
research. Regional variations in the policy and provision of
bilingual schooling in Wales are portrayed, and two further
chapters present recent research into Welsh education. This
research points to the crucial nature of immersion and active
participation in the minority culture as a lifeline for the future
of the Welsh language.

undergraduate and post-graduate programmes. The book concludes with
some non-African comparisons from Australia, France, the USA and
UK.

Lord field hospital. His body glows with energy, but this is no
regeneration into a future form - instead, the Doctor's past faces
begin to appear as he flits haphazardly between incarnations...
Staggering to his TARDIS, the Doctor sets out to solve the mystery
of his 'degeneration'. Who has done this to him? How? And why? From
the Earth to the stars, across an array of familiar times and
places, he follows clues to retrace his steps, encountering old
friends and enemies along the way. Tumbling through his lives, the
Doctor must stop his degeneration before he loses himself
completely...The Artist at the End of Time by James Goss. Suffering
from the effects of degeneration, the Doctor heads towards the end
of the universe in search of answers. Instead, he finds his
daughter – Jenny – and an Artist whose works appear to mark the
end of every world they touch. The Doctor stabilises into his Fifth
form to join forces with Jenny and the Curator to solve the mystery
of the Final Gallery and the art it has collected. CAST: Peter

Four new stories featuring the Sixth Doctor and Peri Brown: 1.1 The
Headless Ones by James Parsons and Andrew Stirling-Brown. When a
distress call from an unknown source threatens to rip the TARDIS
from the vortex, the Doctor and Peri arrive in nineteenth-century
Africa hoping to find the cause of the disturbance. Instead, they
meet a British expedition searching for a long lost tribe: the
B’lemyae… better known to the locals as the Headless Ones. 1.2
Like by Jacqueline Rayner. On the Earth colony world Rusina, the
populace strive to be popular. Likes lead to promotions, dislikes
leads to demotion – and more recently, something worse. So when
the Doctor investigates the truth behind their subscriber-led
society, he finds himself about to become very unpopular indeed.

Hollywood film star. Now she spends her life reminiscing on chat
shows but there is always one unfinished film she refuses to talk
about... at least until the TARDIS interrupts a TV interview, and
the Doctor and Peri’s appearance stirs up long-forgotten
memories. 1.4 Conflict Theory by Nev Fountain. Concerned by the
Doctor’s increasing over-protectiveness, Peri presents him with
an ultimatum: either they seek counselling or she leaves the TARDIS

Colin Baker's career as an actor spans six decades of television
and theatre. To many he is Paul Merroney from the BBC's much-loved
1970s drama The Brothers. To others he is the unhinged Bayban the
Butcher in Blake's 7, or Inspector Morse on stage. Or perhaps some
know him best simply as Colin Baker himself, the man who entered
the jungle and won over the nation in I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out
of Here. Yet, millions know him best as the colourfully-dressed
Sixth Doctor in Doctor Who, a character that has endured - and will
continue to endure - through generations. This is Colin's own
story, in conversation with interviewer Nicholas Briggs. Colin
Baker's known and much-loved to Doctor Who fans as the Sixth
Doctor, a tempestuous, passionate traveller of time and space. His
appearance as a psychotic space-criminal in Blake's 7 story City at
the Edge of the World is one of the most regarded guest spots in
this popular BBC Sci-Fi hit. Colin has also found different
audiences with his appearance in I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here
in 2012, as well as becoming a familiar personality in shows such
as Come Dine With Me, and Celebrity Antiques Road Show. Interviewer
Nicholas Briggs had a similar role in hosting a conversation with
Tom Baker in the highly popular Tom Baker at 80 in 2014.

The Doctor (Colin Baker) is suffering from some post-regenerative
trauma, and, after trying to strangle companion Peri, takes off to
a deserted asteroid to become a hermit. There he discovers a plot
by the Gastropod Mestor to kidnap two mathematically brilliant
twins and shift some planets around in order to release more of his
slimy ilk. Obviously he has to be stopped, but is the Doctor up to
it? Colin Baker's first outing as the Doctor.
The longest 'Doctor Who' story ever. The Doctor (Colin Baker) is
put on trial by his people the Time Lords for interference in the
affairs of others; three segments of his past and future are
presented as evidence. 'The Mysterious Planet' shows the Doctor and
Peri (Nicola Bryant) in a battle with a megalomaniac machine on the
planet Ravalox, but what are the mysterious 'secrets' it protects?
'Mindwarp' shows the Doctor apparently betraying Peri to the vile
Sil (Nabil Shaban) and the Mentors - can the Matrix be falsifying
the evidence against the Doctor? In his defence he presents 'Terror
of the Vervoids', a future story where the Earth is threatened by
evil plant life forms. In the final two episodes, 'The Ultimate
Foe', the Doctor learns the truth about his prosecuting counsel,
the Valeyard (Michael Jayston), and has to enter the Matrix to
battle for his remaining lives. This was Colin Baker's last story
as the Doctor.
