Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese practice which heals disturbed
energy flow throughout meridians with the use of acupuncture
needles. It has gained growing popularity as an alternative and
complementary therapeutic intervention in Western societies. This
book reviews different methods, health benefits and the
effectiveness of acupuncture based on current studies. Chapter One
examines the use of acupuncture in oral medicine, while Chapter Two
discusses its use in the treatment of variety of
neuromusculoskeletal pain syndromes. Chapter Three introduces a
novel approach for quantitative assessment of acupuncture based on
surface electromyographs (sEMG) decomposition. The final chapter
uses student-run medical clinics to provide a mutually beneficial
acupuncture model for medical students and the chronically
displaced populations.
