The second edition of this innovative textbook introduces
students to the ways that society shapes our many forms of
entertainment and in turn, how entertainment shapes society.
Entertainment and Society examines a broad range of types of
entertainment that we enjoy in our daily lives ? covering new areas
like sports, video games, gambling, theme parks, travel, and
shopping, as well as traditional entertainment media such as film,
television, and print. A primary emphasis is placed on the impact
of technological and cultural convergence on innovation and the
influence of contemporary entertainment.
The authors begin with a general overview of the study of
entertainment, introducing readers to various ways of understanding
leisure and play, and then go on to trace a brief history of the
development of entertainment from its live forms through mediated
technology. Subsequent chapters review a broad range of theories
and research and provide focused discussions of the relationship
between entertainment and key societal factors including economics
and commerce, culture, law, politics, ethics, advocacy and
technology. The authors conclude by highlighting innovations and
emerging trends in live and mediated entertainment and exploring
their implications for the future.
The new edition features updated examples and pedagogical
features throughout including text boxes, case studies, student
activities, questions for discussion, and suggestions for further
reading.

CrumbSnatchers (Matthew 15, Mark 7) captures the plight of the
modern single mother/parent, underemployed, unemployed, migrant
worker, female professional, minorities, inner city youth... as
they struggle to acquire the basic necessities of life in a system
that appears designed to keep them out. CrumbSnatchers takes the
Biblical crisis of the Syro-Phoenician woman and translates it to
modern day experiences and solutions. She is an idol worshipper, an
outcast, from the wrong side of town and a woman. She presses
through all of the obstacles and human impediments to get more than
she bargained for. For those willing to fight the good fight of
faith, there is a miracle waiting for you. God has a RIGHT NOW
BLESSING and a space for you to be grafted into the Tree of Life,
the New Jerusalem. Just keep the faith and refuse to be shut up.
Refuse to be denied. Defy convention
CHRIST: THE PREEMINENT THRONE The Preeminent is premised upon the
fact that there is no other name under heaven whereby men shall be
saved. It is also premised upon the certainty that every knee shall
bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. He is
seated at the right hand of the Majesty on High and despite every
effort of satan to undermine Him and man's effort s to replace Him
with Icons of his own making, He reigns Supreme. He is Lord.
Preeminent takes a serious look at all of the Pretenders to the
throne that have unsuccessfully been set to usurp Christ's
authority and helps redirect man to Him. Man has chosen for himself
hewn cisterns that can hold no water. Preeminent redirects him to
the Fountain of Living Waters, the fountain with the blessed
assurance that he will never thirst gain (Isaiah 55). There is a
river of water of life as clear as crystal around the throne of God
and of the Lamb, and man nis urged to drin k from it. Christ is the
Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the Amen, the
Faithful and the True, who says 'I will give to him that is athirst
of the fountain of the water of life freely.' (Rev. 21:6) So, come
on in, the water is fine
Musonius Rufus (c. AD 30-100) was one of the four great Roman Stoic
philosophers, the other three being Seneca, Marcus Aurelius, and
Musonius' pupil Epictetus. During his life, Musonius' Stoicism was
put to the test, most notably during an exile to Gyaros, a barren
island in the Aegean Sea. Because Stoicism was, for Musonius, not
merely a philosophy but a prescription for daily living, he has
been called "the Roman Socrates." MUSONIUS RUFUS: LECTURES AND
SAYINGS will therefore be welcomed by those who seek insight into
the practice of Stoicism. In this volume, readers will find Cynthia
King's translation of Musonius' lectures, as recorded by his pupil
Lucius; the sayings attributed to Musonius by ancient writers; an
exchange of letters between Musonius and Apollonius of Tyana; and a
letter from Musonius to Pankratides. This volume also includes a
preface by William B. Irvine, author of A GUIDE TO THE GOOD LIFE:
THE ANCIENT ART OF STOIC JOY.
Critically acclaimed, this novelization of the Norse Myths by
Cynthia King is again available! The gods, giants, dragons and
messengers are here, their joys and anguish, their battles with
evil from the dawn of life in Valhalla out of fire and ice, to the
predicted death of Balder the Good, and the ensuing cataclysmic
battle-Ragnarok-between Gods and Giants. "The author is to be
praised for the skill and dignity with which she has handled
this...grand and powerful tragedy of the gods."-Library Journal
